I'm not tempted to cheat on the Atkins diet, but am losing very slowly. I have to force myself to eat. Yes, I have recipes and have been experimenting, but nothing is very appealing. How do I know if I am eating enough. I haven't been able to go on fitday for awhile (got a new computer and have been busy loading software and transferring files.) Does anyone have any suggestions.

A slightly discouraged happycamper.

Without knowing what stage you are in, and without knowing what you are actually eating, it would be hard for any of us to know if you are eating enough. At a minimum you should be getting at least 20 carbs in approved veggies, etc. if you are still on induction. I had the problem of not eating enough when my allergies were going nuts but that was because of a great loss of apetite due to antihistamines I was taking. What got me off my period of no appetite was to eat a LC peanut butter and jelly sandwich (LC bread, 2 slices, reg peanut butter, and no sugar added smuckers) at about 21 grams of carbs. After I ate that, which was a small amount of foods, sorta high in carbs my appetite returned with a vengance, and then I started losing weight again. But no, if you aren't eating enough, your body will go into starvation mode and it will hang on to every excess ounce of weight.

I would think that if you aren't hungry and nothing sounds appealing, that you ought to try to not eat. If you used to eat at 9, 12, and 5 (and snacks), I would not be surprised if on the LCWOE you weren't hungry at 12 and nothing sounded good to eat.

Its been my expierence that if nothing sounds good, then I'm not hungry and theres just some part of my brain telling me that I should eat because its time to eat, not because I need it.

On LC, I can go much longer between meals and frequently, nothing sounds good at 12 or 1 because I'm not hungry.

However, I'm only on day 13, so I am far from an expert on this

I wish I could say I forget to eat and have no appetite. Granted, I'm less hungry than I used to be (day 12 induction) but when mealtimes come, I have no problem eating. IMHO, I think it's good to eat regularly because your blood sugar keeps stable and you would be less likely to become so hungry you eat everything in the house.

I know how you feel though. My bf and I ate out almost everyday and I was just getting sick of food in general. I wouldn't eat all day because I just didn't know what to eat, nothing sounded good. Even though I wasn't eating, I was gaining. Then I found this plan and luckily things seem to be getting better, and I am liking the food. I had trouble with all the salad at first though.

Sweetgal has a good idea to get your appetite back, maybe that would work. Good luck!

It's really important to get enough calories in.
You should eat before you get hungry but if you are actually full that's a different story.
A couple of days of too few calories won't do harm I expect, so get your computer up and running and then resume fitday.

Sue,

Atkins has a bakemix you can by at a healthfood store/or a grocer with a health section. You can make your own low-carb bread, or some healthfood stores have Low-carb bread.

Also, Aunt Millies Light Wheat has 8 carbs. per slice.

Hope this helps

Run very, very fast away from Atkins Bake Mix. It's about $11.00, and makes nothing good - everything is awful. If you use it, you'll end up with hockey pucks that can put out a diningrom window.

Run instead, to your local grocery store (larger, preferrably), and look for Natural Ovens Lo-Carb 1.. It's 3 carbs per slice, looks like bread, feels like bread, tastes like bread.. IS bread.

I think there's another brand called Natures Own, which I don't know the carb count on.

I know they have a website.. I think it's just www.naturalovens.com. If not, you can find it in a Google search..
