Well today is day 10 of induction and I weighed myself this morn. lost 1 pound. I think today I will be starting my TOM... Could this be why I haven't lost with the pre-menstral going on ?
I've been eating eggs, meat, veggies, cheese, making my own whipped cream, about 10- 9 oz. bottles of water a day and drinking diet rite (only allowable foods)
Now I feel like just quitting...
Also, I workout about 3 days a week doing 45 min. of cardio..
Any words of wisdom would help!

TOM of could have caused some water retention that caused the scale to only show a 1 pound loss. I bet if you wait another day or two, you'll actually be down 2-4 pounds. I always show heavier during TOM

Hi Nicole,
I am a newbie too and this is my first post. I have just been doing alot of reading the last few days. This is also my second go at Atkins because; like you I was frustrated with the slow loss the first time. This time I think I have it figured out, I had to give up all caffeine and last time I didn't do that. I have to increase my water to a gallon or more a day, and even limit myself on diet rite to 1 a day. Unfortunately, I am one of those who stall on all artificial sweeteners, and too much cheese will stall me too! I don't think you have anything to worry about, I think that your TOM is reataining your water and your exercise is probably building muscle as well as burning fat. How do your cloths feel? How do you feel? Today is day 10 for me and I think I lost about 6 pounds so far, but I feel great! I haven't had heart burn since I started and with all the water I am drinking my skin looks fantastic, I don't even have to wear concealer anymore. I have 89 pounds to go to get to goal weight and I am now ready to give my body the time it needs to let the weight go. Stop stepping on the scale, use your ketosticks and clothing for reassurance. Don't step on the scale AT ALL during your TOM, that will just make you feel worse. Try and give yourself a month before you step on the scale again. Good Luck and Keep Going.

Nicole
stay the course and don't weigh until induction is over AND TOM has gone back home.
If you're in this woe to expeerience the huge weight losses a few people experience then your odds of being disappointed are good. If you're following the plan you will likely experience a good induction weight loss. One tip-a few days before weigh-in ditch all very salty foods like pickles.

well, I've been drinking one cup of coffee in the morning.. maybe I need to ditch that!
The only cheese I eat is a little shredded on my salads..
I only need to loose about 20 pounds.. So i'm not looking for a durastic change..
My clothes are comfortable where 3 weeks ago they were uncomfortable.. which is good.. I Do feel alot better..
Should I try induction for another week eliminating caffine ?
Thank you WorkingMom and Rob !

Nicole, are you planning on eating this way for life, or as a quick way to dump 20 pounds?? You are going to be disappointed, because whatever you lose , you will gain back very quickly when you stop doing it.

Mona -
I'd love to do it as a way of life !!!!!
I know (now) that can live without the breads,pastas,etc..
I figured seeing a little bit of results in the first week would at least give me the extra motivation! But one pound isn't really motivating..
Oh yeah, My Ketostix - In the morning I drink 2 bottles of water on my way to work so my ketostix show NEG. But in the afternoon I'm I show a very pink color (moderate)
So am I in ketosis ?

Nicole,
First you are in ketosis, any change to the sticks means you are. Second. I usually retain water with my TOM from a day to two before all the way through to the end. Then I get the woosh.

Dont worry about slow loss, I usually only loose around 1 lb per week, didnt have a "big" loss during induction. Dont give up, it is so important to judge by other things, kketosis, measurements, overall feeling of well being.

You can do it,
Heidi

I just want to add that you didn't mention how much you have to loose. The less you have to loose the slower it will come off. Also if you are on any med's. Some meds will make it VERY difficult to loose weight. Infact.. why don't you post a couple day's worth of menue's so we can see if there is something else going on. Don't give up just yet! I bet we all can get this figured out for you!

I agree.. wait untill after induction and TOM to weigh yourself! I always gain about 5lbs during TOM then shed it plus some!

Measure out a lb of lard and put it in a bowl..then look at how big it seems...every little lb counts!

Hang in there, Nicole!

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat - only about 15lbs to lose and things are going slowly. I say stick with it - maybe cut the caffine and see if that helps. And also start adding carbs (by adding more veggies) back after induction is over.

I lost maybe 4-5 pounds week one. Then gained back 3 week two when TOM hit. And no whoosh when it left.

I cut the few bars I was having and really started being more vigilant about counting carbs as I added more back in (I was really needing the variety).

Stayed steady 2lbs down from my starting weight for the next 3 weeks. Then TOM hit again - I think my hormones are a bit confused at the moment. But no gain before hand, and a day or two from being finished, I'm down about *whoosh* 3 lbs yesterday.

So, the weight is creeping down. Slowly, but it's better than the creeping up I had going on before I started this WOE.

And even more importantly, my blood sugar is **MUCH** more stable. No more ravenous hunger attacks. No more testiness when that hunger hit. I really can tell that this is a much better WOE for me.

So I'd say, don't sweat the scale so much (ditch it even, if you need to) and concentrate on the ways you are feeling better. And how the clothes are fitting better. And give yourself enough time on this WOE to figure out your individual patterns - which IMHO could take a couple months.

And check in here often for encouragement!

Just DON'T QUIT!!!...Let me see....in twenty weeks...which is say....Valentine's day or so....you will look back....if you stay with this way of eating...you will be 20 pounds lighter (a pound a week loss)...in a sexy little dress.....feeling TERRIFIC about yourself inside and out....OR....if you ditch this way of eating you'll be probably pounds heavier wondering "what if I had stayed true to low carb...maybe the weight would have come off"......hmmmmm...which picture do you prefer??

If I set a goal...then when I finally reach that goal..I am afraid that I will use it as a license to eat..therefore..I have no goal...only to stick to this wol FOREVER!!!
