| Hi everyone? I just put my breakfast and lunch into Fitday and noticed that so far I've eaten 70% fat, 26% protein and 4 % carbs. I didn't think I had eaten that much fat, but I guess so. Do you worry about your fat/protein ratio? Should I be trying to add more protein and balance it out more? I know we shouldn't worry about it too much, but part of me went "eek" Any opinions? Thanks! If you want more perspective on my menu: Today I had 3 scrambled eggs with 2 slices of ham chopped and about 1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese for breakfast; a salad with bacon, egg, cheese, olives, broccoli, cauliflower, peas (2T), sunflower seeds (2T) and ranch dressing, with the topping off a slice of cheese pizza and a small slice of pepperoni. (My son had a birthday party to go to... luckily, the place had a salad bar). Then I had some Miracle Fluff (cream cheese, jello, whipped cream concoction) as a snack, and water. Mada 210/208/140 |

| in the beginning days/weeks/months of this new way of eating... you really dont need to worry about fat content. (though there are some folks who just can't have that much for whatever the reason) in my years yrs of this WOE (Fall of 99) the site i was on, there was a huge study amongst board members, and the consensus was, the higher the fat content, the better then actually lost weight.... and i'm talking calories upward of 80% from fat. I do find that I have to have my fat over 50% or i'm just hungry all the time... but i seem to do just fine with my ratios roughly (give or take) 65 fat, 25 protein, 10 carbs (In percentages) though those are averages... i can go as low as 4-5% carbs and proteins as high as 40% when i've increase my fitness level... so they do tend to vary. but - back to your question... No, 70% from breakfast is not bad... it's really about right... other meals may be lighter so they average out. Terese My LC web site LCE Member since 12/00 |

| Thanks for reaffirming what I was thinking. It didn't feel like what I was eating was bad, just when you see the actual numbers, it's kind of shocking at first. Mada 210/208/140 Re-started LC 9/1/03 |

| It's shocking because we've been brainwashed to think fat is bad. Now we find out it wasn't the fat, it was the carbs! Well, refined, non-nutritive carbs. I'm with Terese, if I don't get a good amount of fat during the day, I'm always hungry, grouchy, etc. Fat just makes my mind and soul FEEL better. I don't know how to explain it, it just is. You're doing great, hang in there. Member since 2001 http://www.ilovelowcarb.com Size 24(start lowfat)/Size 18(start LC)/Size 14/Size 8 |

| Something I've noticed is that since I eat a lot of fish and chicken (skinless) that I don't have a high fat content as a rule, and there are days when it's really low and I have a sort of 'washed out' feeling and my muscles feel weak. At those times I eat something rather high in fat purposely. Since fat is the only 'fuel' we're giving our bodies pretty much with this lifestyle it's an important element in our diet now. But yeah, it's hard to get out of the 'fat is bad' mode of thinking. 315/296/150 (Started 8/17/03) |

Not only for thr fat content, but because it also has the ability to bind you up really bad.. Tho, if you don't experience any problems with it, go for it.. |

| Haven't had a problem with it yet... buy you're right. Yesterday was a bit "cheese heavy." Thanks! | No. I don't worry about it at all. Just had my bloodwork done and the numbers are fantastic. Been doing this over 5 years, too. April 352 / 204 / 180 5'10", large frame, size 13 shoe www.geocities.com/aprilreinhardt |

| Mada, while I don't "worry" about my protein/fat ratio, I don't go out of my way to include fat, either. I'm small-boned, short, and have a middle-aged metabolism, and it's too easy to take in more calories than I can use if I enjoy all the fat I'd like. But that's to maintain at my goal weight. For some people it will never be an issue. For others, as you approach closer to goal, you may find that you need to make adjustments. But don't be too concerned about it at this point. | In the early stages of this woe, don't think about fat unless it causes a problem. Women seem to tolerate very high levels of fat in their diet better than men do. I had to ditch the heavyn cream early on in order to increase weight loss but many others here have no problem whatsoever. The only thing is as you add in carbs you have to take the extra carb calories from somewhere. so at 70% fat and 4 % carbs and 26% protein as you increase carb amounts your fat has to drop or your protein does. so fat will most likely drop more than protein since there's more of it. | Remember what the Bible says. "The Lard is my shepherd." Also, I think it says somewhere, "Suet unto others, as you would have them suet unto you." *********************** "Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who the person is you're talking to. Then on the way out, slam the door." |
