Hey Solo...
greetings fellow Kentuckian!

Post a couple days of your menu, so we can determine if there's something there causing your craving.

Sweets, try eating more turkey at night. It seems to reduce the carb cravings and will make you sleepier. It contains high levels of L-tryptophan.

Try a low carb chocolate shake. I've just discovered them this week(I know, I'm kinda behind the times) and they are very filling, and hit the spot.

Instead of giving into something low-carb sweet I usually can head off sweet cravings with a pickle, deviled egg, or something else non-sweet.

If I still want it... I have to wait at least 20 minutes and go do something to keep me busy. A walk or lift small hand weights a few times then I can bum. If I still want the sweet later, I have a diet soda which is enough for me.

When I get off induction I'll probably add in mock danish, french toast and psyllium pancakes as sweet fixes. Maybe the mock danish would work for your craving?

Coming back to give you hope, me a pep talk, and to get away from the plate of assorted cookies in the kitchen.

Went to a local fundraising auction tonight and afterwards there was a spaghetti dinner -- no problem there, but figured I might as well have my youngest son eat while I visited -- and bought some extra food to bring home so I wouldn't have to cook for everyone else since they had lots of extra and "it was for a good cause". Next time I need to write out the check as a full donation and then go home and COOK!

Having the spaghetti in the house isn't a big temptation... but ohhhh.... those cookies!! My youngest said they weren't nearly as good as mine, but man... they look so sugary and soft and sweet and good. Okay, something's way wrong with my thinking! When we were at the dinner the whole table of sweets didn't tempt me one darn bit. There's something about having them at home that is REALLY bad.

I walked away from them half thinking that it would really blow my induction and my dedication to eating well... and the other part of me thinking "just a half won't be that bad". (ha! if I believe that, then I'd probably follow it with the other half and then another cookie...)

Fixed myself a cuppa hot broth (my substitute for hot cocoa - surprisingly I really do enjoy it just as much) and came here..... yep. mock danish, french toast, low carb yummy dessert pancakes. All allowed. I'm resolving to stay away from sweets for my full two weeks then I'll make a special dinner with the pancakes, whipped cream and fruit for dessert.

Reviewing your menu is a great idea, but also review what you have in your house. Do you have anything at all that isn't allowed? Are there certain things that are tempting you? The more carb free you keep your house the easier it'll be to get going on this... and to stay on it!

Don't think you need to have goodies around for your family... you don't. You really, really don't.

Make up a snack tray of cauliflower, celery sticks, ranch dip, deviled eggs, etc. and have it in the fridge for snacking on. Have the good stuff readily available and appealing, keep the bad stuff out of the house.

Solo

When I started changing my eating plan I resolved to go just 24 hours with out sweets (sweets and chips were my downfall) Took me a few days but then I set another goal. If you can't stay away from sweets, just try substituting something "better". Then a few days letter substitute that with something "better" for you. You will sacrafice some weight loss but eventually (like a few days-week) those hormone induced cravings will go away and it will be an easy plan to stay on. Drink water and if you cravings are an afterwork thing have a plan ready in the cupboard or fridge before you get home (make or have the day before)

I agree with you Linda, but the only reason I didn't all the bad stuff out is because I had to test my faith and will power. For me, it's impossible to avoid that kind of food. I am around non-lcers all day and I want to be able to be around cookies, candy , ice cream and not give into my old way of eating.

My will power blew out today. Not sure why I didn't stick to my rules of having something else to break the craving or giving myself a 20 minute time out. That usually really works for me!!! Instead I just picked up half a chocolate muffin and ate it about 30 minutes ago -- and now I feel like CRAP... physically. Mentally I just knew better.

Nope. I just cannot have it around and next time I will be throwing it out in the garbage instead of even taking a nibble.

Seriously, jees--- I feel sick. I've had that kind of reaction occasionally to some foods ever since I was in high school... but never to any low carb foods. I guess I'm glad it made me sick or I'd probably be on a carb binge. I'd rather lay down and sleep it off, but I'm getting on my shoes and going for a walk.

Shay, I'm with you. I have to live around carbs too, so I don't throw them out or try to avoid them. I just avoid eating them. The longer you go without eating them, the easier it becomes until they will just slip off your radar screen. That has been my experience, and I'm very, very grateful for it.
