This is my 3rd week on the Atkins. I weighed last night and I was up 1.5 lbs. I know it doesn't help weighing after dinner and drinking alot of water. But I was a little discouraged anyway. I haven't measured myself since last week when I weighed. I will wait until Friday since that it my weigh in day. Also I bought the ketostix and they show I'm not in ketosis. It's really hard for me to read those things....Did anyone else run into this problem?I really appreciate all you lcer's taking the time out to read my messages and giving my advice. I just love this site.

Shay,
It's 4 weeks for me today. During my induction, I had gained 2 lbs. one day and then the next day had lost 4 lbs. I see why everyone says not to weigh yourself more than once a week. I was so discouraged gaining 2, but then happy when I lost 4!

NEVER weigh after dinner! Always weigh the same time of day (and NOT every day!), first thing in the morning after a potty stop. This is the only way to accurately judge whether you are losing. Of course you will weigh in higher if you just ate a pound of food and drank a pound of water (or more)

You have to experiment to find the best time of day to test your ketones. If you do it after you've drunk a great deal of water, it will affect the reading and possibly give you a negative reading. I tend to get my best results in the late evening or after waking up, probably because I don't drink water in the late evening. I prefer to go to bed on an empty bladder.

One note! If I am not mistaken 1 gallon of water weighs seven pounds. So unless you pee out a gallon...hehe that weight will remain.

Information gladly given, but safety requires no unnecessary conversation.

This is my first time here and so it's my first time to post! I decided that some support might be just the thing I need...

I began Atkins back in July and by mid August had lost 21 pounds. Now I'm just kinda stuck at that same 21 pounds. I go up 1 down 2 and seem to repeat the process. I'm not sure why I'm stuck... any suggestions??

Pollyanna - In order to give you valid suggestions, we need to see a typical days menu, know how much water you drink, whether you're on any medications, whether you're exercising, and anything else you'd care to throw in...

shrinkydink - A typical days menu would go something like:

Breakfast - Atkins Shake - 1 can or hard boiled egg and 2 pieces of bacon

Lunch - Steak, mozzarella cheese, 1 tsp enchilada sauce, 1 tsp sour cream and 1 low carb tortilla (3 grams)

Dinner - Grilled chicken and vegetable

Exercise is 6 days a week for 45 minutes - 1 hour and no meds.

Dismal...!!!

Well, my first answer is this:

EAT SOMETHING!

Seriously, if you started in July, you may not be getting enough carbs, and the carbs you're relying on for a typical meal are wrong.. Less processed stuff (tortillas, shakes, enchilada sauce), and more green and/or leafy veggies. By now, you should be somewhere in the area of 45-50 carbs per day, if you followed the plan to the letter.

Bigger salads, more veggies, lotsa water, and ditch the other stuff for now, until you get rolling again, and then add them back one by one, and only occasionally.

Very sound advise... I will begin tomorrow and turn over a new leafy thing or two. By the way... I neglected to say I've been doing the lotsa water thing.

I really appreciate your help and just curious.. how long have you been at this??? You seem very knowledgeable on the subject.

Have a nice evening

Since April 1st.. I read the book twice before I started, and what the book doesn't cover, I picked up here.. Tis really easy once you get into your own "groove", and know what works for you. Good luck!

I only weigh myself on Monday mornings ..after I pee of course I have to resist the urge to weigh myself everytime I look at the scale, but I know, that weight can fluctuate so greatly and if it says I've gained, I could put my positive attitude in jeopardy. So just think of it that way. Noone needs to make it harder for themselves or a reason to stray..... Good luck and hang in there!
