So I cheated a couple of times. And yes, I learned a thing or two...other than guilt. I learned that my asthma acts up now when I eat flour stuff...cake, four tortillas and so on. I have learned that my stomach hurts when I eat flour products which leads to some other not so pleasing side effects.
But now I am wondering if the reason my DS who is 11 is always having headaches or stomach aches is from all the carbs too. I have decided that although he isn't over weight at all...that I am going to remove some of the offensive foods from his diet and see what kind of changes that makes for him.
I know that low carbing has really made me feel better, made my nails look better...even if I haven't lost a lot of weight just yet(darn it!). Anyway....those are my thoughts on the situation.

According to one report I read recently, the top four offending food substances are cow milk and milk products, wheat and other glutenous grains, sugar, and caffeine containing foods.

Please keep us posted on your findings! One of the things I most love about Atkins is how it almost removed what was once chronic headaches, fatigue, and mental lack of focus. All at once I cut out gluten, most yeasts, sugars, and MSG, and my symptoms subsided. So I don't know if it's just one of those or all of them, or even something else I don't know about, that was giving me troubles.

My uncle has full-blown Celiac's disease (severe sensitivity to gluten), and in researching that I've found that lesser levels of gluten sensitivity are pretty common. Maybe you and your son have gluten sensitivities? It's been a while since i looked into it, but there's lots of info online.

I just thought I'd chime in since it feels almost magic how much better I feel after cutting that stuff out of my diet. I hope your son feels better soon!

Nat I am glad you posted this! I will say I was on a Celeiac diet for over a year and still had tons of problems.(headaches, allergies, asthma, rash, foggy thinking ect...) Although I had allergy testing a month ago I am allergic to some foods too. The reason I went on Atkins is someone asked me to try it. Not just for weight loss but because of my sensitivites to almost all things. I researched it..even read this forum before deciding. After a week I felt much better. I did have broncial asthmas for a few years until I cleaned up my diet..then it came back when the nutritionalist put me on more veg/fruit diet..it was certain high glycemic veg I was having problems with and the real starchy ones. As for fruits..well because of my allergies to pollens and ragweeds I need to stay away from alot of them.

I am doing or have been doing the same with my 2 year old daughter. I do give her small amounts of snack items but am careful not to load her up with them. She eats what dh and I eat or once in a while a canned product. Shes very sensitive also. I give her some red potatoes with meals a few times a week. I dont cut all carbs from other foods but minamize them. She growing and developing fine.

Dont beat yourself up for cheating. Just get yourself back on track! Now that you know you have a problem with foods put that list on the fridge so you can recall what happened to you if you have that craving another time. Thats what I do.

Blessings,

Carol

Moochie I am in the same boat. Read my post to Nat.

How are you feeling lately? Have your other symptoms resolved? I still have them at times but I have read that your stored fat and tissues carry toxins from previous meds and other things that I cant recall right now...so I am wondering if that is why I still sometimes feel like those headaches, fogginess and lack of energy, and tiredness still haunt me??

Blessings,

Carol

Hi Carol. I also have alot of allergies. My back lit up like a christmas tree during my allergy testing. In fact I joke that I am allergic to the entire state of Florida. I know that with fruits and veggies, if you wash them well, or even cut off the top layer of the product that seems to help me not have reactions to the pollen that may still be on the top of it. Although, since induction I haven't really tried any of the fruits I use to eat, so who knows.
i think of after years of abuse to our bodies, it does take awhile for all that junk to get flushed out...Its not happening fast enough for my tastes! ;o)

I used to have a lot of allergies. This WOE seems to have made a big difference.
