Hi~

I'm new to this low carb thing and my husband has borderline high cholestrol (he's only 27) and his doc has told him to change his diet. His dad is on this low carb diet and has lost lots of weight and so are some friends of ours with the same results. My question is, is this low carb diet also good for reducing one's cholestrol??

It's been shown to reduce it more often than not.. Over time, though - not immediately.

If he's just had his counts done, have them done in another 3 months, and another 6 months, and by then you should see some improvement, if he's following this WOE properly.

Shrinkydink~

Thanks for the info. Yeah, he's had his counts done twice already and goes back in January (I think). We'll see if there's any improvement. Also, his HUGE weakness is beer. He's a homebrewer, and honestly I have no clue how many carbs are in the beer he brews. Can he still brew/drink beer or does he have to cut it out of his diet completely??

Beer is pretty high in carbs, typically.. Is there any way to determine a nutrition count for what he makes?

I believe Mechelob Ultra is one of the lowest carb beers out..

However, even if he drinks that, keep in mind that his body will not start burning fat until all of the alcohol has burned off. You don't want his primary source of fuel to be alcohol.
