Why would Atkins Nutritionals Corporation endorse a product that could ruin your diet? One word: MONEY. Unilever was making hand over fist with its Slimfast line and somebody realized they could make a huge fortune in low-carb products, and now is the time to do it, with the Atkins thing turning into such a craze.

It may well be [being generous, here]that if Dr. Atkins were alive, he would realize that the sugar alcohols are a problem and would demand the products be reformulated. But he's dead, so corporate inertia would dictate leaving things as they are.
