I have just finished reading a thread relating to alcohol. I was under the impression you couldnt drink alcohol for this wol to work, or is that just when doing Induction? ...red wine 0 carbs....all spirits are 0 carbs I know, but I thought wine had sugar in it, as white wine is 0.5 or 0.8 per glass...
May be if someone could let me know? Thanks in advance...

Shelley

You should not drink any alcohol during induction. When you do reintroduce it to your diet, you will notice it has a much different effect on you than it did preLC. Alcohol may cause you to stall. I drink a few every weekend and I am still losing, but if I cut it out I may lose faster . When you drink you should also drink 8 oz of water to every drink. I need to practice what I preach!

Thanks Susan

I did read the Atkins chapter on alcohol but still wasn't quite sure (lost the book for now probably at the bottom of my 2yro toy box) I initially had trouble on induction and I'm thinking now I had a few glasses of wine the first saturday night so I threw in the towel I have lost 4 kilos (8lbs) since Aug 29 03 I'm going to start again tomorrow, I'm getting over my "worries" about the cream (I blamed that for not losing) my body could do with a break lol
Thanks again Susan

Hi, Shelley.

FYI: A glass of dry red wine (@ 4 oz or 118 ml.) has about 2 gms of carbs.

The more important factor when drinking an alcoholic beverage is the alcohol content.

1. Alcohol is an extremely "available" fuel for you body to run on. There's practically no "work" involved for your body to get it into your blood stream and "use" it. Consequently, when you take in any alcohol, it will be used for energy before anything else. When alcohol is available, your body doesn't need to "bother" burning your fat for energy.

2. Alcohol tends to fog one's judgment a tad. A handful of pork rinds can become a bag. Just a "taste" of something can become a big fat cheat. LOL!

Those are some of the reasons why induction works better in the absence of alcohol, and it should be used in careful moderation at any point thereafter.
