Arghhhh...!

Alright, just need to vent.

I am so close to my goal weight. I am at the last 4 pounds that feels like a tennis match to lose them. Which I don't mind at all because this is a wy of life for me, not the Grand Prix! So however slow it comes, I know it WILL come off in its own time!

I mentioned to my best friend how close I was to my goal. I mentioned how much I am craving spaghetti, but I don't make it because I know I will want alllll the noodles too! Yum!

So, then I get this lecture from her on how she thinks I shouldn't lose another pound and where am going to lose it from? She gave me the "I'm your friend & I love you" talk (Like I was anorexic!!!). She said to please, for her make some spaghetti and EAT IT this weekend to "make her feel better".

She then starts in on how many people at the school where she works are on Atkins and "they all say its good to get off the diet for while." (My ears cringe at that word!!!)& "There's a lady at work who DOES Atkins during the week then eats carb laden stuff on the weekend, and she takes those 2 pounds gained off by Tuesday."

My response to all of this is:

1. I eat healthier with this way of life then I ever have. Why would I want to stop? This isn't the movies - I don't need an intermission!

2. Her coworker is excusing herself for going off of Atkins, which by the sounds of it is JUST a diet to her. Atkins on for a few days and then off is not doing Atkins! It just puts your scale in a ping pong match with those 2 pounds.

3. I am five foot seven and at 139 am a size seven (wooohoo!!!). Four more pounds isn't going to make me look like I am from a third world country!

And next time someone tells me Atkins is bad for you, it's hard on your kidneys, and you shouldn't stay on it for any length of time, I will NOT smile politely (and create grooves in my tongue from biting it!) as I did when I was just at a potluck picnic! Oh right uhmm, look at YOUR plate (You are what you eat comes to mind!) and you wouldn't give your car bad fuel and expect it to run effeciently - why would you do that to your body? So as you pile your plate high with baked beans, bread, etc, sitting with the comfort of extra padding on your derriere and tell me this is "a bad diet" don't expect me to hold my tongue (!) because I will will INDEED educate you!

Wowie!!! Sorry about the length of this!

Though I am ranted out and thank you for letting me bend your ear!!!

Atkins for life!!!

"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We're afraid."
"Come to the edge."
"We can't. We will fall!"
"Come to the edge."
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.

Crys,

I've been getting a lot of that as well. I had to tell my new co-workers that while I respect their opinions, this is my life and I expect them to support me in my decision. So far, they've been pretty good about it. The scariest part of that was actually setting a boundary and saying it out loud. I suspect that is one of the issues that led me to overeat in the first place.

Congratulations on you success. I respect what you're doing.

Hey Crys,
Congrats on how well you have done! Those last 5 pounds will put you at an "ideal" body weight. It's good that you are not looking at the program as a diet. As far as other people goes, let them know you have the support of an RD behind you!!! LOL. I haven't been doing atkins for very long, but have researched it and I am pretty close to going against the typical way of thinking (low fat/low cal)and start instructing my patients on it.
Good luck!

Crys,

good for you in sticking to your guns on this one

most people just don't understand - many of us CAN'T eat those foods, as they are addictions.

good luck on your last 4... and do remember: it's just a number

If you are happy with your size, and comfortable in your body - what is a number anyway.
