I am in my fourth week of Atkins and I am wondering if I can add light cranberry juice. It says it is sweetened with sucralose 24mg or something. Also it says there is 5g carbs per 6 oz, 3.8g sugars.
Can I drink this or would it be best to stay away. Is 3.8g of sugar too much? It seems so!

This is just my NSHO based upon my experience. Some people I know have been sensitive to sugar in that it halts/slows their weight loss. I recommend minimizing any discretionary sugars as much as possible until you are sure that it won't affect you.

Also while 5G is within plan, it is a heavy carb burden for only 6 oz of juice. For induction, it is 25% of yor daily total! In OWL, it is a bit less depending upon your CCLL , but still...

I am personally saving things like this until I am closer to , or at my goal weight. Then I may experiment to see if they cause any problems maintaining my wight. My concern is that I might get into a bad habit, or restart a craving, or something.

Just my opinion, YMMV...

Since cranberries are so un-sweet, I'm going to guess the carbs are coming from concentrated white grape juice that has been added. You might want to read the ingredients.

I love juices too, but I've had to give them up for this WOE. Theoretically, I bet somebody could make a really kickass low-carb cranberry juice, but I've never seen one for sale.

Well,

According to the USDA web site:

1 cup of Cranberries raw, has 7.2 net carbs
(11.6 carbs - 4.4 fiber)

Compared to:

1 cup of Raspberries raw has 6.7 net carbs
(14.7 carbs - 8 fiber)

So, cranberries look like they would be on the OK fruit list. Of course, a raw cranberry is just a bit tart.

Now, 1 cup of cranberry juice(unsweetened) is over 30 grams of carbs. That makes sense, since it is probably about 3 cups berries to 1 cup juice. and juice typically has little or none of the original fiber content.

I suspect that the Light Juice is a cocktail of some % of cranberry juice, diluted with something else (as indicated by the Dr.) and then sweetened

Now to the only thing applicable to this post... The problem with juices and this WOE is that when you juice something, you remove the fiber content. It is the fiber that mitigates the overall carb impact. Plus, fiber is good for your health...

Well, I won't be drinking that then! I was just looking for something different and irrationally bought it because I saw "sucralose" on the label. Believe me, splenda sweetened products are hard to get around here. Thanks for the info guys. I guess my bf can drink it all then. Thanks!

Whoa, cranberries have that many carbs????? I had to go double check that and it looks right, but that's still amazing. They have no sweetness to them (they taste like aspirin raw), and they're mostly full of air, as you know if you've ever bitten one. They must be dense with starch. I'm amazed.

In a recent issue of Fitness magazine, one of the common dietary "mistakes" people make is drinking their calories. In other words, choosing juices instead of whole fruits and veggies.

You just don't get as much eating satisfaction from drinking juice--and it's a heavy carb hit in most cases.

I love frozen mixed berries, or fresh strawberries.
