| Hello to all, my name is Cindy and I have been TRYING to follow Atkins for some time now. My problem is that I can't seem to lose more than just a few lbs. after a couple of weeks so I get discouraged and try some other form of weight los. Last week my OB/GYN suggested that I stick with the LC WOE due to the fact that I have been dx'd w/PCOS and IR. I just joined this website and think that it is absolutely wonderful!! I feel like I could really use the support and any suggestions or advice from all of the successful dieter's. I still feel a little discouraged with the slow weight loss in my case, especially after reading the wonderful posts from all of you. My OB has told me that people who are IR tend to have a more difficult time with weight loss and also have a tendency to put weight on quicker. Has anyone else heard or experienced this or is my OB just trying to make me feel good!!!!(lol) |

| I haven't had any experience with IR, etc. I have had experience with cronic illness. Many of the drugs that I need to take tend to slow my loss but I don't let them stop me from eating healthy. Up's and downs are normal and it is common to have a small adjustment period after the water loss has stopped during induction. Just keep eating healthy and let your body adjust to it's new nutrient levels. You probably spent more than a few months getting in the shape you're in, allow yourself some time to change it. One last point, Don't try to compare yourself to others. You are an individual and we are all different. Similar, but different. Hang in there and allow some time for it to work. Steve 235/183/175?? | Welcome, Cindy. And a special welcome from the slow loser's club. >>> ... fast as a glacier ... >>> that's our motto. Many of us have various issues that make us somewhat metabolically resistant. That does not mean that this way of eating does not work. It does. It just takes longer. One thing that was very helpful to me was paying particular attention to how I felt. If you can focus on how much better you'll probably feel (first two weeks of induction aside - the carb withdrawal can be a real pain - I'm talking about after that - as you start to expand your menu and include a variety of foods) that can become your primary motivation. If it does, I expect that you will gradually normalize your weight, notice various health benefits, and find the transition to maintenance fairly effortless. The idea for many of us is to learn a different way of eating, that is so satisfying on many levels, that we have no problem thinking about eating this way for the rest of our lives. At that point, it is no longer a race and you're off the diet treadmill. I hope you'll give it a real chance, so that you can really appreciate how it is possible to eat a wide variety of foods, never be hungry, and .. oh yeah, lose weight, too. Make yourself at home!
