I know this is probably a stupid question, but... can you eat too many eggs?

I have them for breakfast and then sometimes in a salad (tossed or chicken salad). Sometimes it might be nice to have egg salad for lunch.

TIA for your input.

No, in my opinion. They're kinda the ultimate low-carb food. 4 to 5 a day is not uncommon for me.

Some folks say that with too many, you may grow intolerant of them, but I don't know how much, or how that varies by individual.

Hi Debbie. I'm still a newbie, but as far as I have read in the book, you can't have too many. I have at least 6-8 a day, from scrambled, hard-boiled, and deviled through-out the day. Hope that helps!!

Anything is possible!!

Ditto. I don't think you can have too many. They are a very well balanced food; quality protein, good fats, and a small amount of carbs.

Good for it!

If you're having too many eggs, your body will tell you.. In the form of gas, bloating, or a general feeling of illness.. If you're not experiencing any of these after awhile, you're not having too many eggs.

Thanks, guys! Nice to know. The other good thing about eggs is... they're cheap! Which is good for me, because we are on a very tight budget.

Wow...I know our cholesterol and other readings are really supposed to improve with low=carbing...but 8 eggs a day? Is that really ok as long as you feel good? Has anyone had their blood checked after eating that amount?

Gertie, you may have missed it because the media's been pretty quiet about it - but the latest statement on eggs basically amounted to..."Hey, remember how we told you not to eat eggs because they'd raise your cholesterol and increase your risk of heart attack? Well, we were wrong. Whoopsie!"

I eat a *lot* of eggs. I have had days where two out of three meals were eggs. And my cholesterol ratios and triglyceride numbers are beautiful. My doctor wrote me a little note on my last report, commenting on how good they were.

We've been brainwashed, pure and simple.

I eat a lot of eggs, too. I eat them pretty much every day, and it's not unusual for me to have several in a day. I live in "farm country" where lots of people keep hens, so have great access to inexpensive, fresh, free-range eggs. I had my cholesterol levels checked just about a month ago, and everything was excellent (totals and ratio both).

Yup. 5 years of eggs, cream, steak and cheese and my lipid profile is way better than when I started. Triglycerides very low and risk profile (hdl/total ratio) was 2.3 last time around (a few weeks ago) - you aim for 4 or under.
