Hi everyone. My name is Laurie and I have been lurking here for quite some time. I have done induction and lost about 8 pounds and now I'm onto OWL. I have about 15 more pounds that I would like to lose. I bought something tonight and I'm wondering if it's allowed and I'm also wondering how I can make something like this taste good? Here's what it is: It's called "super unsweetened granola cereal" Ingredients are: granola cereal, rolled oats, soya oil, wheat flakes, barley flakes, wheat bran, coconut, almonds, cashews, sesame seeds and vanilla. Thanks for your help, Laurie |

| Laurie, what is the carb break down?? look at total carbs, fiber and sugar counts. that will tell you if you can have it or not. i'd say anything over 2g sugar and 10net carbs may be too much, per serving. My LC web site LCE Member since 12/00 |

| Hi Terese! This is something that I found at the bulk food store and there was no nutritional values with it so I really don't know the carbs etc. Laurie
quote:
Originally posted by Greeneyedgirl: Hi everyone. | granola tends to be higher in carbs i think if you have it, it will greatly raise your carbs for the day. but depending on what your body can handle.... as long as there is no sweetener, thats a good thing. I would think that some sprinkled with some yogurt would be a nice snack, but i (for myself) wouldnt have it after mid-afternoon... that way i know the carbs have burned off during the day. jmho.. |

| You know what I just realized? First off I made a mistake. It is called granola cereal but the ingredients don't show granola. Here are the ingredients: rolled oats, soya oil, wheat flakes, barley flakes, wheat bran, coconut, almonds, cashews, sesame seeds, vanilla. No granola is listed. Sorry, I made a mistake in the first post. So my question again: Is this okay to eat for breakfast and how should I prepare it? Thanks again, Laurie |

| Granola is just a generic term. I think the most important thing to know about it is this: is it mostly flakes or nuts? Persoannly, I'm inclined to think that it is most likely high carb. You might be better off with a can of mixed nuts. But as you know, YMMV |

| Its probably a bit higher carb than would be desired, BUT, I think I would eat it: maybe an ounce or so, and have it with some scrambled eggs or other protein/fat to blunt any possible blood sugar spike. The nuts will help slow absorption, as will the whole grains. Yup, I'd eat it.... |

| Personally, I would stay away from it...especiallly if it doesn't have a carb count. Traditional granolas are very high in carbs. You might want to save this treat until you are in maintenance. Have you tried Sharron's pumpkin granola? It's incredible...and legal. | Just to be safe, hold off on it until you have lost a significant amount of weight. You might indulge in it after a good exercise workout, but don't eat too much. It's too bad it doesn't have any counts on it, especially carbs and fiber. It is probably high in fiber, but don't assume anything. I make my own nutty cereals with: flaxmeal, ground almonds, ground cashews, ground pistachios, and a couple TBS. of milk and egg protein powder (health food stores and Trader Joe's) I use about 4TBS flaxmeal and 1TBS or so of the other nuts. I add about 1/4 cup of HOT water to it and mix thoroughly. I add s/f syrups and Stevia to mine with a smidge of cream. It's decadant and HIGH in fiber.........keeps me very regular. AND it sticks to my ribs for a good 3-4 hours. It's a great cereal alternative. I make up batches ahead of time and keep it in the fridge. Then when I need to eat breakfast in a hurry, it's pretty much ready. I think the carb count is about 10 per serving, so it should be used during OWL.
