| Hi everyone, I'm new to this place and just coming off a binge this weekend. First one in months. Just found out I'm probably type two diabetic, so what do I do? Binge all weekend on flour and sugar! So I started induction today. Feel crappy already. Could use any encouragement you can give. I read some of the posts and you guys are terrific! | Welcome, Jessie. You are on the verge of a way of eating that will normalize your blood sugar and your weight. Most of us who were diagnosed diabetic or pre-diabetic find that blood sugars normalize even faster than the weight does. Lucky for us! I hope you'll do some research on the various lc eating programs which are available. Then pick a lc eating plan that works best for your issues and life style. Then get the book that goes with that plan and use it as your roadmap. You CAN do this. You can control your blood glucose levels instead of having your life controlled by diabetes. Remember that, if you've been put on any hypoglycemic meds, you must work closely with your dr. to adjust your meds as required. This way of eating is very effective in lowering blood sugar levels and most people need to calibrate the reduction (and, usually, the ultimate elimination) of their diabetic medication. Post often for support! Maggie 5'1" ~~ Atkins since '98 (160)/Maintaining nicely (110) ~~ Redhead until further notice! |

| Welcome Jessie. In addition to what Maggie's already said, we also have a special support forum for us diabetics. You'll find all kinds of links and useful info. Always eat your veggies first! |

| WELCOME JEssIE! I think I kind of understand what you are going through... Two years ago, I was diagnosed with type II diabetes and I was SO DEPRESSED. But the threat of going on meds scared me enough to get serious about my weight and health. With Atkins, I have not only normalized my blood sugars, I have cut my insulin levels IN HALF -- thereby (essentially) *reversing* my diabetes. I have experienced many other positive side effects from this woe (way of eating), too! The best advice I can give you is to educate yourself about the hows and whys of this woe. Read everything you can and then put it into practice. You will be SO glad you did! I HIGHLY recommend reading these two books: Protein Power by Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades (even though I primarily followed an Atkins-type plan, the Eades do a WAY BETTER job of explaining how and why this diet works!) and The Schwarzbein Principle by Diana Schwarzbein, MD. This endocrinologist's book taught me how diabetes is being grossly mishandled in this country and convinced me to eat this way FOR LIFE. I hope you will find them both helpful. Good luck; You CAN do this! Summer www.herstorygirl.com |
