Okay... I've hit a stall and it's been recommended that I up my carbs a little (I've been in induction for 3 weeks today).. even today I had a hard time... couldn't get over 20... anyway.. I had a Tbsp of peanut butter. I'm slowly starting to move out of induction, but not completely and I am wondering if that was okay or should I maybe wait a little longer?? I don't want to mess things up? Any tips would be great..

or maybe tips on how to just get my carbs up.... I'm eating lots of veggies... following the rules, but it seems that no matter how much I try I can't get over 20.

hello,

First of all 13LBS..WOW!!!

It is VERY common to hit a 3rd week "stall". Your body is trying to catch up with it's self. I mean.. 13LBS is quite a bit of weight to loose in that short of time! Your doing great..but your not going to keep getting the results that you got with induction. I know.. I know.. it sure would be nice to keep seeing numbers going down that fast!

As for induction.. .you NEED to move out of it! It serves no purpose to stay on it longer. It may make your body sensitive to carbs which has happened to me. It can actually stall your weight loss too. If you can find your CCL before your body get to use to 20 carbs a day then you will have much more wonderful menu to choose from!

BE CAREFUL when it comes to peanut butter! Most ppl (including myself) can't stop with just a T or so. Your best bet is to go out and get yourself some nuts. They make a nice addition to the menu and can keep your mouth busy for a little while when snacking. Of course if your like me.. 1 by 1 just isn't good enough so I eat it by the handful and there again I can't stop at 1 serving..LOL Another thing that you can add is some fruit. You can have pretty much any fruit with the word "berry" in it and whip up some heavy cream to dip it in. Yummmmm! Some ppl add flaxo meal to there daily menu or even some yogurt .. either blue bunny or plain unflavored yogurt.

again.. don't be afraid to add them carbs .. 5 a week! You didn't put the weight on over night.. so patients is a virtue!

Congratulations on finishing induction! Great loss! Peanuts and peanut butter is one of those YMMV things. I've read posts on LCE from members who struggle with craving peanut butter, it seem to have that effect on some.
I use only natural peanut butter, nothing hydrogenated or sugar added.

Use it sparingly and not each day. Observe how you feel after you have it.

Later on in OWL, you can add low glycemic fruits like berries and some melons. Go back and check your book about what to add for upping carbs. You can never have too many veggies!

Take care~

WooHoo on your Induction loss!!

and i have to agree on PB. I am literally adicted. I can not stop at a spoonful. Almond butter is great too.

how about a handful of nuts instead of the butter?

one thing about peanuts and PB... out of all the nuts, it is a tad higher in the natural sugars... plus it's actually a legume, not a nut.

I've been on a Walnut kick lately to up my Omega oils.

find a good nut and try that fora while.. though watch those cals... they add up very fast.

where are you getting your carbs from? you can try adding higher carbbed veggies. Avocados, tomatoes, onions -

or try a high grained cracker (like wasa) and have tuna or egg salad on them. I also like flax muffins or La Tortilla tortillas for sandwiches. (they are both very high fiber, low carbs)

another thing... many do **underestimate** their carb counts... i find i get quite a bit from dairy (plus my coffee)

it definately sounds like menu planning will be a little easier in the next phase... more choices. Are there any limitations?? Also what happens to ketosis? Does your body stop with that and you just slowly continue weight loss from the healthier eating and exercise?

I guess I should just get my book out. I put it away because I thought I was going to be on induction for awhile. Thank goodness for this board... If I stayed on it as long as I had planned I would've never been able to eat another carb again... heehe

THANKS FOR THE ROOTING BY THE WAY!! It always nice to get some pep from the cheering section.

I eat a tsp at every meal. It curbs my sweet tooth. When other people are snacking on candy in the afternoon, I'm able to pass it up.

Yep, I vote for Almond butter. There's also macadamia nut butters available. It's expensive, but very decadent. Try adding strawberries and blueberries and cantaloupe too. Those are allowed fruits.

I use Kavli Crackers (hardtack and flatbread crackers) The really thin Garlic flavor is 9 carbs per 3 crackers. Try the plain with almond butter........yummy and crunchy!!! The garlic ones I add ham and cream cheese......D-LISH!!!!

I would have to echo the cautions...I don't even like pb very much and I had 2T the other day...but then I wanted 2 more. I had to hide the jar.

I would add some more veggies...if you're in induction, then you can only be eating 1 cup per day with salads so another cup would be a good choice, imo.

I see a lot of people mentioning great sounding foods with low carbs... ie. crackers, and other things. Where have you found is the best place to buy something like that?? I've tried browsing at the grocery store, but that is not the place to go, unless I'm just looking in the wrong spot. I know I can get some of the good stuff at GNC but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg... any idea would be great!!! and very helpful.

I have bought very little of the "low carb foods" mostly cause they are very expensive...I have found that I really don't have that much of the old cravings I used to have for some of those things, and if I do, I would rather eat the real thing as opposed to something that cost two to three times as much.... I noticed when I went to a low carb store that there were low carb tortilla chips.... 15 chips were like 11 or 12 carbs. and regular tortilla chips are not much more....so, you can try veggie subs - ie spegetti squash instead of pasta; mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes; etc.... or get out your measuring cups and scales - 5 saltine crackers are like 10 carbs. make sure you have a carb counter on hand when you are going to munch on something., but try for the veggie/fruit sub before going to the processed refined products.

Pistachio nuts are everywhere now. 25 kernels have 85 calories and 4 carbs. Eating them takes awhile, too! Good munching satisfaction.

Trader Joe's carries organic low carb bread and tortillas. They also have some low carb soy/flax tortilla chips, which are about 7 net g. carb for 15 chips (an ounce). That's a bit high for a daily snack, but not too awful for a once-in-awhile treat or to take to a party where everything else will be through-the-roof high carb.. The chips have corn, so avoid them if you have a sensitivity or intolerance of corn products.

I agree about getting the natural peanut butter and using it sparingly. I bought a jar aqnd it was gone in a week. NOT Good! So now I keep a jar at my sister's house and have a spponful or 2 every once in a while. Robin then hides it from me until next time. lol - I'm serious.
The supermarket will probably carry things like Wasa crisp bread (WASA FIBER RYE has 5 net carbs per large cracker-like piece). Also ak-mak crackers should be near the wasa. Of course you know about pork rinds. Check the labels on breads to see if some have net carbs acceptable to your current ccll. Nature's own, for instance has 5 net carbs per slice but I found they slowed my weight loss. Others have no problem. Of course ordering online is a good option. Low carb tortillas and bead mixes as well as things like almond flour and a large list of things can be ordered from www.netrition.com . Others may be out there.
