Hi
Time to introduce myself

Why do I think that I’m a freak? I started lo-carbing 13 days ago and have had NO bad side effects what so ever, everything has been good
I sleep 7 hours straight a night
On low fat diets I ate 5/6 meals a day plus snacks. ( was always hungry/clock watching) and 3 hours sleep was the best I ever got.
Now I eat 3 meals a day never hungry and don’t snack, in fact I struggle finding 1500 cals/day to eat.
Breakfast @ about 8am lunch @ about 1pm and dinner some time before 9pm.

Up to date I have lost 13lb and with the weight loss I find that I have become stress free (the bad stress) my back pain has gone my food bill is about the same but now I eat prime cuts of meat the more costly salads and veggies,
Out of my life has gone what I think of (now) as poison refined sugar, trans fats, vegetable oil, with the exception of my beloved Olive oil. And grains in any form.

Other benefits are: I only had one chin to shave this morning I can tie my shoe laces/see my shoes, with out holding my breath. Walk for miles without stopping and resting my back I won’t mention that my testosterone levels have sky rocketed.
So sign me up as a low-carber for life

Well that’s enough for now

Lez

No you are not a freak, you are just learning a new way of eating and living. First off, congrats on your weight loss already... it doesn't take long and you get to see great things happening with your body. I never had any headaches, or neg. side effects when I gave up all the sugar, flour, potatoes, etc.
some people do some people don't. Keep at it.

Ain't it FINE!! Congrats on discovering THE way to eat!

I didn't suffer much in the way of withdrawals either, which was nice. What I DID lose was my craving for sweets and the constant hungries. I'll take it!

Thank you all.

My abridged story is, I quit smoking some 6 months back after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, knowing that high blood pressure + diabetes + obesity + smoking = not getting my pension,
Quitting smoking was easy BUT and a big BUT I could eat a bucket full more than a pig a day, good stuff mind you 2lb of bananas 6 peaches 2 apples a bunch of grapes a few pears and a cantaloupe wouldn’t stand a chance all in-between my baked potato rice etc.
So after gaining about 20lb and having no clothes that would fit me I had to do something else and smoking wasn’t an option. My next move was to find all I could about diabetes and after a while I found a web site called “second opinion” owned by the author of “eat fat get thin” I read everything on his site and was converted to lo-carbing. I skim read Dr Atkins book and lost about 10lb in three weeks and stuck.
I went on a week’s vacation and took Dr Atkins’s book plus a carb, cal, protein and fat guide with me, gained 2lb on vacation read the book properly and realized the error of my ways.
Started low-carbing proper @ 250lb needing to be 200lb any less and I look ill, so 36lbs to go.
First off, my main aims was to reduce my blood sugar, now I feel so good lights are coming on all over, the arthritis in my back knees and feet now is only a bother and not the debilitating condition of a month ago, I walked 5 miles today without a twinge. I am due blood tests next month so I’m hoping the blood glucose is back to normal.

A little footnote my BP has dropped from someplace the other side of the moon to 100/55 so I went to see my doctor to get my BP medication reduced 120/70 would be just fine, my doctor is not a fan of Atkins so I told her I was finding it hard to stick to 1800 cals a day “the truth” 1500 is just fine for me, she told me to stick to the low fat food and eat wholemeal bread, potatoes and pasta and at least 5 portions of fruit a veg a day then offered me some pills to reduce my blood glucose (I refused them)

put the cigarettes out of reach and sight,
when you feel like a smoke look at the time, if its say 20 past the hour tell yourself "leave it untill half past the hour" you will always go over
then leave it untill the hour and so on until you relize not smoking hasn't killed me, and if you do have a smoke dont give yourself a hard time, just start again,

hope that helps i went that way and it worked for me
