Hi all.

I have never posted to any board before - I started on 20 carbs a day 4 days ago and drinking heaps of water.

Questions:

1. Is 5.5 pounds lost already too much
2. Will I continue this amount of loss and thirdly when does your bladder adjust to so much water.

Thanks

Congratulations! You're doing very well.
There's no telling how much and how fast induction loss occurs but 5 1/2 pounds is on the high side for 4 days but not unusual. Loss amount varies based on a host of factors like how much weight you had to lose. Or whether you were retaining a lot of water before you started. I've read of people who have lost anywhere from 1 to 25 pounds during induction.
As far as the bladder - it lessens as time goes on but how long is another individual thing. I was getting up 3 times a night for the first month at least. Now I get up once or not at all. The water is an important element in this woe and is worth the inconvenience.

Thanks, your my first reply every.

Oh, to get up only 3 times would be fantastic. Before low carbing I got up about 4 times, last night i would of got up about 15 times - in the end I just stayed up!.

What is the correct amount of water you should have.

Had 2 litres which i think is 84oz today.

Toni
I can sympathize. I got up at 3:30 this morning and never got back to sleep. as far as water the general rule is a minimum of half your body weight in ounces but most here recommend more if possible. 2 liters is about 67 ounces. So that would be passably okay if you weigh 132.

Wow, I didn't realise you needed that much.

My starting weight as of 4 days ago was 188 ( an awful lot I know). So how much in litres do I need to drink.

Does it make a huge difference to overall success?

I appreciate your reply.

A minimum of 3 liters at that weight. I'd start there and build up to a gallon (4 liters).

Dear Rob,

Thanks for that figure. Its been a day and I managed to make it to 2.5 litres. More work to do but when you consider before this week some days I would be lucky to drink half a litre. Its not to bad.

Its going to be 95 degrees tomorrow so I should have my first day of 3 litres.

I appreciate your knowledge.

Regards

Toni

Welcome, Toni. You've found a VERY good board for your first posting experience.

Yes, you will become more accustomed to the water intake. However, you do need to sleep. So you might try to drink more during the early part of your day, and taper off before bedtime.

Here's a trick I learned here to keep track: put five or six rubber bands around the top or bottom of a 20 oz. water bottle. As you empty the bottle, move one of the rubberbands to the other end of the bottle. When all the bands are together again, VOILA! You've consumed 100 oz. of water (or more). Oh--20 oz. is 591 ML. You'll have to do the arithmetic yourself.

I feel your pain on the waking up in the middle of the night for bathroom breaks, but just to add my input -- I aim for an ounce of water for each pound I weigh. Then I know I'm getting enough. Remember the body is primarily made up of water and should be kept that way. Being dehydrated will make you feel icky and you certainly want to take advantage of your new high energy levels associated with lowcarbing.
Hope this was helpful and good luck!

Toni, Welcome aboard!!!

Take advantage of your rapid weight loss now, because after induction it WILL slow down. So expect that. You are one of the lucky ones and will only need to stay on induction for the 2 weeks. I would move onto OWL right away after the 2 weeks.

Water consumption does get easier. I stop around 8 pm in preparatin for bedtime. I try to get it all in early. The very best of luck to you!!!!

Thanks guys for your posting.

To count the water I have a piece of paper on the fridge and just put a tick on it when I have a glass, at the end of the day I add them up and times it by 250ml - each glass.

I weighed myself again and I have put 2 pounds back on - so i guess it will even out over the long run.

I will now put the scales in the cupboard between each of my weekly weigh ins.

It was hot here yesterday - 110 so my water count was easy.

Happy low carbing.

Toni

Hey there, I too started induction 4 days ago and started off at 188! So far I'm at 182 but I'm sure I was just retaining a lot of water before I started. I wish you good luck!

The first pounds ARE water, because carbohydrates make us retain water. When you deprive your body of the amounts of carbs you used to eat, it eventually releases that water. Then the REAL weight loss begins, i.e., fat burning. The fat is eventually metabolized to water, which can be retained from time to time. Then, voila!!!............a Whooooooooooosh of somtimes 3-4 pounds. WOOOHOOO, the Whoosh Fairy Visits. This goes in spurts. Expect this. It will most definitely happen. Don't lose hope. The fairy always comes back if you are doing this right.
