last night i broke my meal plan and had ... well.. 2 peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches (no, it wasnt whole wheat bread...)

ok, so now i panic and think its going to show up on my thighs in like 5 minutes.

i know that if you break with your eating plan, by eating too many carbs, that you will gain weight, but how much, how quickly, how bad does the cheat have to be, how often....

does this make sence???

thanks
M

Alot also depends on a few other factors: are you drinking your water - increase after the "cheat"and flush that 'cheat out of your system. Other factor - how much you are exercising - you might be exercising enough to work it off without it sitting on your hips and thighs very long....Also, if that is all you cheated on, that's ok, so long as you don't let it be an excuse to keep eating the wrong foods.
I tend to try to get my "cheat" days in early in the week so I have enough time to get back on track, eat right the rest of the week, exercise more and drink more water.

If you cheat and weigh in the next day, you'll likely see an exaggerated weight gain. Wait 3 to 5 days and then weigh yourself and you'll probably be back where you started. Carolyn's right with the water/exercise recommendation.
If you do that along with rducing carbs by 10 for a few days you'll likely have a loss instead of a gain.

Sometimes you'll see a weight LOSS the next day... on the scale. Cheating will sometimes get the bowels moving again for people that are constipated from eating lots of meat and cheese. However, bowel movements aren't really weight-loss.

What I've noticed after cheating is weight gain, usually very rapid, mostly water weight in upper arms, legs, and face. If you get back on the wagon quickly, most of the water weight will go away, although you will have lost a certain amount of time.

I have to agree with Rob and the good Dr... I played the yo-yo game for quite a while (several days LC...several days not...etc) and it really sucks! Avoid that if at all possible. I could still lose some weight but the cravings and guilt are miserable. Typically after a "bad" day or two I'd have a 4-7 pound spike. However, so long as I went back to LC and was strict with it, it promptly came back off. My problem was always the third day after cheating. The first day back to LC'ing was easy to stay focused, and the second day I could get through with a little determination - but getting past that third day without cheating was awful.... After that it starts getting easier for me... I've been away from that rollercoaster for a while and have no desire to go back!

I too notice a rapid weight gain of up to 4 lbs overnight after a high carb event. It's mainly water weight, as the body seems to need a lot more water to metabolize carbohydrates. I feel bloated and puffy for 4 to 7 days, before my weight gets back to "normal".

I hate to say this but the first time I cheated (for a whole week) I lost 5 pounds. The second time I cheated (another week) I didn't lose and I didn't gain, I stayed the same.B-u-t I had to go thru all the cravings (and guilt feelings) all over and I don't think it was worth it.

I cheated this week - chocolate covered almonds...

It is my time of the month as well, but when I got on the scales, I hadn't lost anything.

Is it usual to stall in the 2nd week of Atkins?

Only speaking for my self, I stalled and didnt lose for several weeks. During that time i cheated big time, got down in the dumps and cheated some more. Gained a few pounds and have almost lost them. But boy the guilt is awful, if for no other reason I pray not to go off the program again. When I cheated the weight showed on the second day. Hey Doc I weigh in after the morning Bm. I weigh less and like it that way! Kisses to all. Sugar free of course!

Repeat after me...There's no place like home.

I had a bad candy-filled Halloween weekend. Party, wedding reception, bowling, etc.

It took me 2 1/2 weeks to lose the 6 lb. I gained from that weekend. And I lose it slowly in the first place. I average about 3 lb. per month! Drat!
