Hi there,

I'm on day 10 of induction and find that I've started to get into a rut with my meals, having the same foods for breakfast and lunch every day and dinner doesn't vary overly much except to have a different type of meat/fish.

I read all the wonderful sounding recipies but a lot of the ingredients aren't available in the UK (or at least I haven't found them!) I've been to some of the High Street health food shops to search out some LC products but no luck as yet.

Can anyone help with places in UK to get LC ingredients?

You may or may not be able to find some of the products in the UK, keep looking! Some stuff is kind of hard to find even in the states. You can try doing some of your shopping on line in the mean time though. There are plenty of links from this or Atkins sites and if you do a google search you are bound to find places (like health food stores) that sell the other things you are looking for. Good luck!

Hey, you may find some helpful suggestions about making Atkins meals less boring in this thread:

Tesco are thinking of introducing an LC range soon, so hopefully they'll bring that in quickly.

Otherwise, I haven't found anywhere in particular that stocks a lot of LC... I'll keep an eye out though, obviously.

Thanks everyone,

I've e-mailed all the major UK supermarket chains and asked if and when they plan to introduce LC products to their stores but no responses as yet. Hopefully if enough people ask the question they'll get the message that there's a demand for this type of product. Sticking to this WoE would be soooo much easier if I could purchase LC ingredients to make some of the great sounding recipies I've seen.

I've managed to track down some UK web-sites that supply LC products but they are all VERY expensive and by the time I've paid for shipping it's no cheaper from the US.

I'll update this thread as I get responses from the supermarkets & if anyone else has the time, why don't you contact the stores and ask the question too

Hi,

Just a quick update

Safeway - no plans as yet to introduce but are aware that LC products are becoming more popular and will introduce them if customer demand is high enough - Sounds promising

Sainsbury's - no plans to introduce LC products to their stores

Tesco - a bit wooly. The lady I spoke to was unsure of the new ranges that Tesco were introducing. She did say that new products/ranges are normally introduced quarterly and an in-store newsletter is published to advertise them so I should keep a look out in them.

Co-op - a very bizarre response. They state

"Unfortunately with the medical consequences of a low carbohydrate diet
unproven at this time, we do not feel that as a responsible retailer we are
in a position to actively promote this type of diet."

I have written back to them pointing out that countless studies have proven that smoking, alcohol abuse & diets high in processed foods HAVE been proven to cause illness and death but they are happy to stock these products. I also gave them details of various studies showing that a LC diet can be more beneficial to your health than the traditional low fat diet.

I cheekily asked that instead of responding with poorly informed opinions could they please research this WoE further and re-consider their decision. - we can only wait and see!!

I'll update as I get more responses.

Great Job contacting all those markets. If they get enough people to do the same, they'll start stocking low carb products. Do you have any friends or family members on low carb who would be willing to do the same? In the meantime the internet is your best bet.

Thanks for the input Rob,

I've had a response now from ASDA. They are interested in my query and will forward it to the relevant merchandiser.

Sounds promising but then again they are owned by Walmart so maybe they've seen the surge for this type of product in the USA.

I wrote back to ASDA, Safeway & Sainsbury's advising that none of the other supermarkets stocked a LC range and with a reported 3million (& rising) people in the UK doing the Atkins diet or similar there should be a high uptake for these products.

Hopefully it will encourage them to research it a bit more & maybe trial some products.

I'll keep you updated

Forgot to say, further to Rob's post, for anyone wanting to contact the supermarket's and raise a query, I just went into their main website and clicked on the 'Contact Us' tab but let me know and I will post the e-mail addresses that I have.

The more people that ask the question then the better chance there is that they'll take the request seriously and stock/trial some products.

Maybe somebody could do the same thing with Costco, here in the USA. They stock all kinds of low-fat crap -- bars, shakes, all of that. They don't stock any low-carb stuff, except for zone bars.
