I had never heard of it either, Rainbow, and my health food store doesn't carry it. I did find it on line at http://www.vitacost.com.

It's a little higher in carbs than soy protein isolate, which is nearly carbless and I don't know how it reacts in cooking. I bought it, like you, because I found some recipes calling for it and didn't want to substitute since I've never used this stuff.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you , you can find it there, along with all the other protein powders on the shelf. It's a TJ's store brand. I don't know the price because I have never bought it, but am considering buying it next time so I can try Sharron's No-Bake cookies.

I get it at Trader Joes. It is about $7 for a can, I think. I've not found anything that subs for it -- but I've never used whey protein, so I don't know how that reacts.

It is more "absorbent" than soy protein, and has a unique flavor. The kind I use is carbless, or nearly so.

It depends on the recipe, but if it is my granola, someone said they used vital wheat gluten instead and it worked out fine. That will add more carbs and less protein to the recipe though. The cookies? You could try it and see what happens

Blessings!

I found it at my local Meijer. It was with the "diet" and diabetic stuff. I didn't get it but it was $6.98

Alas, I have no Trader Joe available.

Sharron, what brand do you use? The lowest I could find was MLO Brand and that's 2 grams per 2 TB. That's 16gms in a cup.

Maybe I can find your brand on line?

Yep, me too, Trader Joe's. See if your local HFS will order it for you. My local HFS carries it too, but at a much heftier price tag than TJ's. so, TJ's is the only place I buy it now. I only use it in Sharron's recipes, so it lasts a looooooooooong time.

My local Pulix and Kroger both carry it in the "diet shake" section.

I think I spent about $11 - but there's a lot, and now that I have Sharron's book, I plan on using more of it. Not sure about the brand or carb count. Will check when I get home.

Thanks, Carol. I had no idea where Hartsdale was (never heard of it), so I checked it out on mapquest. I'm no where near it. It's practically in NYC, in the White Plains area.

Alas, I shall make do!

It's actually called Milk and Egg Protein. I've seen it everywhere, now that I know it exists. See if GNC will order it for you if they don't normally stock it.
