of constipation, diarrea? I stareted on 11/28 03 and really love this WOE. I'm just kind of curious as to why I would have this problem, so far today, 3 times in 1 hour Sorry to be so gross, but I've been lurking for awhile now and you all seem like a really nice, close bunch of people. You all are so inspiring! If you get a minute sometime today to respond to me I would really appreciate it. Thanks again, Gina

That happenes to my mom when she eats the sugar free ice creams. She says it's her new Constipation drug. It's the sugar alcohols. Bad news.

Thank you to everyone who answered my post. I haven'thad any sugar alcohols as so far I'm sticking to a strict induction.( wish me luck ) Lisa, it was good to hear that you have this problem too, at least I know I/m not alone. I'm not really complaining either since I've already lost 6 lbs! Thanks again to all of you on this board, you guys are awesome and give me tons of hope!! Gina

Gina,

It could be the trans-fats.

As soon as I went on olive oil no problems

Welcome, Gina.

It often takes a while for the colon to settle down after starting induction. Most people suffer constipation, the rest have bouts of diarrhea. Fiber (and lots of water) is the "cure" for both. It adds bulk to the stool, which helps both conditions.

In general, make sure you get a bare minimum of 64 oz of water; aim for twice that. Also, eat the whole amount of vegetables. AND, no matter which way you're "going" (or not, as the case may be, LOL!) add fiber to your menu.

During induction, think of psyllium husks. This is Metamucil without any additive - and much less expensive. Usually found in the same section of the store. Start by adding a tablespoon, in water, with every meal.

After induction, jack up those green leafy veggies to get you first extra 5 carbs and look to things like flax cereal as a breakfast item.

Like everything else about this way of eating, much is known in general, but a great deal of the journey is an education about your own particular metabolism. We like to say YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary.

Another thing-I had my gallbladder removed in 1997. Gallbladders help digest fat. I notice the dreaded d-word comes if I eat too much fat, particularly saturated fat. I am good with olive oil, avacadoes, etc, but really fatty beef and hamburger tear me up!

Restart Atkins 12/1/2003...
start 225... current 217... mini goal 210... final goal 135
