Hello again everyone!
I am proud to announce that I have gone through a week and a half of induction! I do not know how much weight I have lost (no access to a scale)...but I can already feel my clothes fitting better. Again, I have some more questions:
1. I know a person who had to have her gall bladder removed b/c she due to her being on Atkins. What happened in her diet for it to be that severe she had to have it removed? I have also heard that LC eating affects your kidneys. Is that true?
2. After induction, what kind of foods do you suggest I start putting back into my diet?
3. Also, I made a few 'errors' in the first few days of induction. Should I stay on it for a little bit longer to make up for those days I made mistakes?

I think that's it....for now. LOL. I will most likely be back with some more questions.

1. I know a person who had to have her gall bladder removed b/c she due to her being on Atkins. What happened in her diet for it to be that severe she had to have it removed? I have also heard that LC eating affects your kidneys. Is that true? Doing a low carb WOL adds more fat back into the diet. The gall bladder is a storage vessel for bile, which is produced by the liver. If you have gall stones, the added fat causes your gall bladder to "wake up." The gall stones can get caught in the duct that leads to the beginning of the small intestine (illeum.) If you don't have significantly sized stones or none at all, this won't hurt you at all. In fact, it will help keep your gall bladder healthy, use it or lose it.
2. After induction, what kind of foods do you suggest I start putting back into my diet? I added back berries, nuts and low carb bread (gradually) I take out a certain amount and then put the rest away, so I don't "graze." I also added MORE veggies.
3. Also, I made a few 'errors' in the first few days of induction. Should I stay on it for a little bit longer to make up for those days I made mistakes? You could safely stay on induction for another few days to a week. No problem there, physically. Psychologically, you may want to move onto OWL as soon as you can.

If you are not having any gallbladder issues, don't worry about it. It will thank you in the long run.

After induction, I added berries (frozen mixed berries), cottage cheese, peanut butter (natural type, no added sugar or transfats), and flaxseed/wheat bran cereal. All of these in MEASURED quantities, and in line with the five-carb guideline.

After you've been away from sugar for a while, berries are a fabulous sweet treat!

Jenn,
Ditto what Barb says about the gall bladder.

Actually, if you want to know the truth, gall bladder problems can strike anyone at any time. The increased fat in our woe (way of eating) might indeed alert you to a problem, but honestly, if it does, you were going to have a problem with it eventually anyway. This woe doesn't cause gall bladder problems; it only brings them out for some people.
As for the kidneys -- that is a yes and no answer. I do not believe this woe is harmful to the kidneys in the least UNLESS
1)you already have kidney problems and
2)you don't drink enough WATER
Drinking adequate water on this woe is CRUCIAL to the success of the plan AND it protects your kidneys from any unnecessary strain from the ketones.
I do think if you try to follow this way of eating without drinking enough water that it can put a strain on your kidneys and that is why I nag people to drink their water.

Ditto on the berries and nuts and definitely DO add more vegetables. That's the BEST way to increase your carbs and keep losing. Stay away from the low-carb candies and treats; use them only for *special occasions*.

I also agree with Barb about staying on induction for just a couple more days, BUT if you find you are getting bored or frustrated with the induction menu, then go ahead and move into OWL.
Good luck to you!

Summer
