Hi, my name is Kristie, I'm 27, I tried the Atkins diet last year, but I went off it due to frustration in the food. Hoping that I can do it this time and stick with it. I'm 5'2, 166 pounds, hoping (again) to get down to 125.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

Kristie

Hey and welcome. i am also 27 and about the same height and weight as you, but I had to lose 25lbs to get there! my goal right now is 150. I have a larger frame. Post often, I like to see the progress of others in the same height/weight group as me.

193(1.03)/167.4(1.4.04)/150

Starting 2004 25lbs lighter!

Hi Kristi,

Welcome aboard. Hope you have better luck this time. I sympathize with your frustration. I also went on a low carb diet a few years ago and quit due to the work it takes to prepare. No more mindless slamming something between 2 slices of bread and wolfing it down, or driving thru the hamburger joint and getting spoon fed all those carbs......sigh. Yes this does involve planning and cooking....however if you stick with it for at least 2 months FAITHFULLY you will be so happy with the results that you will continue. Than after a while it seems easier and easier to truly make this a permanent WOL.

Good luck. And check in often for help, encouragement and advice.

Hi, Kristie, and welcome back.

Why don't you tell us a little more about your "frustration in the food." Perhaps people on this forum can suggest some alternatives for you. Once you've completed induction, there are many choices! Also, on this site, there are plenty of good recipes, including simple ones for people like me who aren't exactly into cooking.

It's impossible and inhuman to stick with an eating program you don't like. Learning to make low-carb your lifestyle (to insure long-term success) means finding ways to make it enjoyable.

Best wishes!

I think the problem was that I didn't have many recipes, or variety, same old thing everyday. I like to cook, just didn't know what or how I could prepare my meals.

The first time i went on the Atkins, I was faithful to it for 3 weeks, and lost 16 pounds, so I know it works, but it got so boring with what to eat.

I was watching the food network last night and got an idea about making spaghetti squash alfredo, and it only has 2.5 grams of carbs per serving, so I picked one up today and i'll try it tonight.

You can also get a lot of ideas and recipes from our cooking forum and our recipe database.

And if you really like cooking, you might be interested in helping test recipes for LC cookbooks.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think another thing that I was lacking before was the support of the people around me, like my husband. He would just say "your fine the way you are, or you are driving me crazy with this stupid diet, or I can't even take you out to eat without you acting dumb about what you eat". This comming from a man who can sit and eat an entire pizza at 12 at night, and not gain an ounce

Isn't it great to have a hubby who loves you just the way you are? NOT! Fortunately for me, Atkins fits in better than any low-fat diet with the way my husband likes to cook for us. So perhaps with Atkins you'll seem to be eating more "normally" to a guy who inhales pizza. For one thing, depending on the ingredients, you can eat the top off the pizza!

By the way, as my husband has gotten older, the "same" weight he weighed 30 years ago has shifted. He still weighs 180--but what used to be muscle is now a bellyful of fat--very serious threat to his heart and health. Getting him to admit that he has a problem took a doctor's cooperation, and a serious blood glucose situation. As of today, he's joining me on Atkins. He says, "I don't want to lose a bunch of weight." Well, we'll see about that. I want to get my arms all the way around him again.

Welcome Kristie. Definately check out the recipe section here. It is full of ideas to cook and eat that you AND your hubby will enjoy. I have found this way of cooking so easy compared to the lowfat portion control of the past failures.
DH has lost 27 pounds (the bum!) Someone told him the other day that he shouldn't lose anymore weight he was looking to thin. (the super bum!) He didn't even think this was a diet really. If you don't make things to exotic, then your DH may not even know.
