Just think of it this way. You're on induction for only 2 weeks out of the rest of your life...it's a tiny amount of time to have a boring diet! When those 2 weeks are done you can start adding more fun and interesting foods into your diet. Induction was boring for me as well, but knowing I was going to be able to add different foods kept me on track during that induction period. Hope this helps a little bit.

Hi Sandra,

Yeah.. induction is pretty strict. How ever.. it does get better after the 2 weeks. How much longer do you have to go?

Oh.. and one more thing.. are you subtracting your fiber from your total carb count? For example.. lets say you eat 1 cup of broccoli.. and it has 5grams of carbs...and 3grams of fiber. You need to count that 1 cup of broccoli as only 2 net carbs. (btw.. I don't know the count off the top of my head..but this is just to give you an idea of how it is done).

There is another opinion on here that seems to be quite common too .. eat all the legal vegies you want! This is totaly up to you!

As for the water thing. It really depends on the person you ask on here. For myself.. I count all liquids towards my daily intake. How ever.. a lot of ppl say only water will should be counted.. or flavored water and plain water. It really is something you need to figure out for yourself.

If your not sure this is the right LC WOE for you... then it certainly won't hurt to look into some other ones. There is a book by Laura Richards.. I don't know the name of it..but I KNOW some one here can tell us. Her book tells about the different LC WOE plans and from there you can decided which will work best for you.

One finnal thing.... typing in all capital letters is considered to be yelling. Might want to take off the cap locks.

Good luck to you! I know you will find what works for you!

I THOUGHT INDUCTION WAS ONLY TWO WEEKS, BUT SOMEONE WHO IS ON THE ADKINS DIET AND HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR AWHILE TOLD ME I AM SUPPOSE TO STAY ON INDUCTION UNTIL I AM 20 WITHIN MY GOAL WEIGHT, THAT'S 80 LBS. SO I HAVE BEEN ON INDUCTION FOR ALMOST 4 WEEKS NOW.

HOW MUCH AM I SUPPOSE TO INCREASE MY CARBS?

I am determined.

No, get off induction now. You won't keep losing weight if you stay on it forever. And you'll get more foods, too.

PLEASE DON'T YELL, OKAY? OUR EYES AREN'T HARD OF HEARING.

sandra,

I just want to say that who ever told you that is incorrect. Staying on induction longer than 2 weeks serves absolutly NO purpose and will make you sensitive to carbs. It will start to hinder your weight loss and make it harder to stay on the wagon. I know this from experiance!

I know the atkins book says that you can safely stay on induction for a certain period of time, but a lot of us here disagree with that statement! Why do that to yourself!

As for adding carbs.. after induction.. you add 5gram a week untill your weight loss has stoped... then you back off 5. IT IS common to hit a little pause in weight loss when starting to add carbs back. So when you do hit a point at which you don't loose for 1 week... wait one more week just to make sure it is your peek carb intake. If after the second week with no loss then back off 5 grams of carbs.

Hope this helps!

Welcome, Sandra.

There are numerous low carb eating plans, some of which have more generous carb allowances than others.

You can get the book by Laura Richards, How to Get the Most from Your Low Carbohydrate Diet, which describes the various plans, or you can search the web and get information on them. You must then choose a plan and get the book that goes with that plan.

You cannot expect to have success on this journey without a roadmap.

(FYI: You may not know it, but typing in all caps on a bulletin board is similar to shouting. Just turn off your caps lock and you'll be back in "conversation mode.")

Have you even read the book? You can get information at www.atkins.com also. Start adding veggies, 1/4 cup of nuts as a snack (true nuts, not peanuts) a few starwberries and whipped cream (real whipped cream, NOT cool whip) cantaloupe - 1/4, etc.

Read, Read, Read!!!!! It will make all the differnce. Don't go solely by what one person tells you. That person gave you MISinformation!!!

I can't add much to the great advice already listed, except go get yourself some seltzer water (Safeway has it in their own brand in 12 oz cans and it's frequently on sale, a case for $3.88) and then get a few bottles of DaVinci or Torani sugarfree, Splenda-sweetened syrups in flavors you like. It makes getting water down MUCH easier.

As time goes on, you'll likely find, to your surprise (as it was for me!) that water actually tastes GOOD! I now drink LOTS of plain water just because I LIKE it! Who woulda thunk THAT?!

Phew. That's what I came in here to say, after seeing so many threads titled in all-caps by Sandra. Thinking she must just not know that bit of info.

Can always count on you, Maggie.

Hang in there, Sandra. You're doing great!

Sandra, You can stay on induction longer if you choose, but it's not written in stone, maybe you should check out a book store and look at some of the other low carb plans, there are plenty out there, I keep with atkins cause it's just plain easy to follow, and I LOVE meat!! And water is necessary to stay healthy, I know it's hard when you start, in fact it's still hard for me on busy days so I just chug a 16 oz glass 4 times a day and if I get more I call it bonus. Ho by the way welcome !!and good luck with whichever plan you choose.

Sandra:

Answering your questions in the order you posed them:

Another "diet" to follow which is not as restrictive carb-wise, is Protein Power.

Cyrstal Light does not count as water, since it is not simply water. If you're asking if you can count Crystal Light as your fluids for the day, well, that's up to you. You need to find out, through much trial and error, exactly how your body will react and lose weight according to how you tweak your eating regimen.

Now...on my soapbox here, so please forgive me:

You said:

If you are determined, as your bottom line states, then you will find a way for YOU that this way of life will not become boring and bothersome.

As Barb Keith says, knowledge is power. Investigate everything you can concerning this way of life and simply find something that is not boring and bothersome for you. Apparently you have access to the InterNet. In this day and age of technology, there is really no excuse to make excuses for not finding a way to make things work for us, be it finding a better job, a spouse (I found one online), a better job, or a better way to lose weight.

I intend no offense. Please choose to ignore my post, if that's what works for you. Please do not give up simply because you think this way of life is boring and bothersome.

Find the way that works for you.
