I just want to say how lucky you are in America to have so many low carb products available. Here in the UK, every manufacturer seems to be firmly stuck in the low fat mode! A few are finally waking up to the low carb boom, but I wish I could just walk into a supermarket and buy things like sugar-free syrups, low carb crackers etc. Mail order is far too expensive. Any recommendations?

I've found the low carb products to be of limited use. It's better and probably healthier to stick with the protein, fat, and limited carbs--mostly veggies. All of which are available in most countries.

Even though it's tempting to buy them, you may be better off not having the choice.

Patricia, welcome to LCE!!!!! Stick with REAL food. While it's nice to find low-carb tortillas and bread, you really can do without. You can eat normally, but just leave out the starch. I make things that I normally used to, but don't have the ...... noodles, etc. And for heaven sakes, if you find any low carb bars, avoid those like the plague. For now, just eat real, honest to goodness food.

Sugar substitutes are great. I use the rest of those products once in a while. My goal with LC is to eat healthy, whole foods.

Take care~

Hi Patricia,

I e-mailed all the main UK Supermarkets a few months ago asking if they were planning to introduce some LC products and got very disappointing results. Only Asda and Safeway said that they would introduce them if customer demand was high enough. Might be worth sending them an e-mail and encourage any other LCers you know to contact them to show them that the demand is there. Media reports state that over 2millions Britons are LCing at any one time!

Holland & Barrett said that they were planning to introduce a LC range early in the New Year but judging by the price of their other special diet ranges I don't expect it will be cheap.

In general, I would stick with the advice already given, stick with real food, it's your head that wants the syrup etc. not your body.

Good luck

I've just been to the UK Atkins site (www.atkins-uk.com) and they have a link to search for UK stores that stock their products. The only downside is that the link doesn't go live until 05 January but I daresay waiting for a couple of more days wont hurt.

Patricia!! Welcome!!!! You've found a great place for support and advice!!
Good advice here so far! I too do not use many LC products...having an LC shake in the frig for a rare meal on the go, LC tortillas, LC bread, and DaVinci's syrups, and of course Splenda...these are really the only items I use semi-regularly...and I did without most of them for months before they came available here. In fact many of the other products I have no desire to try (Many of the LC treats use ground almonds which you can make yourself in a food processor...and flax meal/seeds is another very healthy common ingredient which you should be able to find.)
Congrats on your decision for a healthier life!!

Patricia, I'm in southern california, which is like low-carb ground zero. I don't eat any low-carb specialty items on a regular basis. Rarely at all, in fact. This diet works best without all that stuff.

The Atkins steak sauce is very good. I don't think it even contains any unnatural ingredients.

Well yes.. I have to agree that they are nice to a point, I have to say that they are to expensive for me to buy all the time. I use it as a treat. Believe me.. some of these products are not all they are cracked up to be either.

Pssst... make some of your own crackers. I slice some cheese and put them in the oven till they are crispy. Of course you can microwave them too.
