What about flaxseed/wheat bran cereal on induction?

I've restarted induction, along with my spouse. However, I've previously been eating a simple hot breakfast cereal that's 1/4 cup flaxseed meal and 1/4 cup wheat bran. This counts out at 15 carbs--14 of which is fiber. In other words, one net carb.

This is very good for the digestive system. However, it isn't on the "official approved" list for induction. What do you experts think? Shall I go ahead and recommend it to my "newbie" at home, and have some myself? I really like it!

Unfortunately, it's not on the legal list for induction. Bummer, as it is really yummy.

This is my exact same question. I'm day two of re-Induction and have had the CarbSense hot cereal in the morning as it is fast and filling. I figure its better than nothing at all.

Hi everyone,
Well.....no nuts or seeds during induction. I am on day 10 of re-induction, and believe me, I am sure missing my "hot cereal"...LC of course!
Barb, I think I would not feed the "newbie"
any hot cereal, but stick to the basic rules of induction.
just my $.02

Ya know, I did flaxomeal on induction and it didn't knock me out of ketosis at all. Flax is FREE food in my opinion, so I say go for it. I added ground nuts to it after induction, as well as s/f syrups.

I personally think you would be safe doing the straight stuff on induction. And Barb, ya know, those guys have it easy.......they react much more quickly, in general, to induction. PLUS, the flax will keep his plummin hummin, ya know? I make sure I drink a full 8 oz. of water whenever I do flax.

I think, for MOST people, the purposes of induction (detox, switching to a fat burning mode, etc) can be achieved with a menu that includes that cereal for breakfast - assuming you keep to your "twenty" for the day.

I believe that the reasons Atkins puts this sort of thing off until OWL are 1. to make sure even resistant people (I'm one) can get into a good fat burning mode and 2. to break the psychological link to carby foods.

Even with my own concoction ( Maggie's Cereal ) because of my underlying blood sugar issues, I keep it to small portions even in maintenance. Most people can have bigger portions than I do. Believe me, it's low glycemic, it won't rocket anyone's blood sugar, but the glycemic reaction is not the same as say a couple of scrambled eggs. Plus, it reminds me so much of oatmeal that, I can see how a person who's trying to break the carb cycle might start daydreaming about other things like it which woudln't be acceptable for induction - or for that matter, OWL.

For me, I'm glad I didn't happen on this until well into OWL. I was so carb addicted, I would have been eating it three times a day and probably never gotten the "drill" or into ketosis. LOL! So, my HO, along with the others, is YMMV.

I now know many individuals who did a successful induction while having this sort of cereal for breakfast. It probably would not have been a good thing for me.

This is an educational process and, as long as a person's committed for the long haul, there's no reason not to experiment a little. For anyone who has doubts about their metabolic state or how "mentally" tied to carbs they might be, it's probably better to put it off and go with some psyllium for the regularity issue.

Thanks, everyone. Carb addiction isn't an issue here. Keeping "the plummin' hummin'" is.

I'm thinking the basic flaxseed/wheat bran combo I mix up (no nuts) couldn't hurt, once or twice a week. It's almost all fiber, and practically indigestible! I'll give DH a sample, and see if he even wants it.

Sounds like a plan, Barb Just make sure you have him drink some water with that. It works like a charm for me.
