This is my 2nd round to go back to doing Atkins. I did Atkins about a year ago and began to feel faint (plus I practically lived on bacon and eggs the whole time without any of the vegetables) and ended up passing out. Last night, I had the same kind of feelings of faintness and ate a little more. I talked to someone else and she said maybe I'm not eating enough calories...I'm just wondering if any of you would have an idea of anything I might be doing wrong...here is an example of my daily menu...I would appreciate any help I can get!

5:00 Am 2 med eggs w/ 1 tsp butter and 1 oz cheese

7:45 AM 2 bacon /1 oz pepper jack cheese

9:45 AM 2 cups lettuce/1 cup celery/2 Tbsp Italian Dressing/1 oz pepperjack cheese

12:00 pm 2 hamburger patties or grilled chicken/2 oz cheese/1 serving sugar free jello

5:00 pm usually 1 hamburger patty or grilled chicken and maybe 2 med eggs

And I work out at Curves for an hour every morning and really do it strenously...so any suggestions of why I started feeling faint would greatly be appreciated...or if there's something I'm doing wrong, I'd appreciate any advice! Thank you so much!

That to me does not look like you are eating enough carbohydrates at all.

The meat is "free", the vegetables seem to be in short supply and not nearly enough calories.

How much water are you drinking as well?

Have you read Atkins book at all? It's invaluable when starting this WOL. Perhaps using a free site like www.fitday.com will assist in showing you how many carbs you're eating.

BTW - ignore the stats for Fat & Calories when using Fitday - it's the Carbs you've got to watch here. Although, that isn't an excuse to stuff yourself!

You REALLY need to be eating more vegetables!!!!! This is not a NO-carb way of eating (WOE), it is a LOW-carb WOE. Eat raw veggies with dip if you have to. Or roast your veggies in the oven, they taste better that way, with a drizzle of olive oil and a bit of garlic and spices. You can dice bacon and cook that with your veggies too, in a fry pan or sauce pan. I like to add 1 TBS. of onion in the bacon. If you don't like veggies, find a way to eat them. Chop them into little bits and add to salad. Eat raw spinach in your salad. Dark greens are waaaaaaay better for you than iceberg lettuce.

If the fainting continues, SEE A DOCTOR!!!!!!!

I have read all the Atkins books - even the Atkins for Life...I thought for induction, though, it was only suppose to be 2 cups of salad and then 1 cup of legal vegetables and that was it...do you think I should increase that? I LOVE salad and I LOVE celery...but would that mess up my carb count any? I've done fitday.com...just haven't been there as of late to see how I'm doing...guess I should be going back and doing that as well...thanks for the advice...oh yeah...I drink around 150 oz of water a day...have to have my water!

Several people including me think dark green leafy veggies don't count. Eat up on them. Spinach is lovely raw in salad or steamed with butter and a bit of garlic. I buy fresh green veggies most of the time but in a pinch a can of spinach, mustard, turnip or collard greens will do wonderfully. How about broccoli and cauliflower? Very yummy. You need to try to have a veggie with every meal. To much protien is counter produtive. Your body will use it for fuel just like a carb if forced to.

Drink more water. Half you body weight in onces daily. Do it over the course of the day. I sip mine through a straw. It helps.
It doesn't seem to me that you ae eating near enough calories. Don't count calories or fat, just carbs.
Induction is the toughest phase but it is only for 2 weeks and if you keep enough fuel in your furnace, especially if you are working out you should breeze right through this!

You can do it!

Thank you so much for your advice! I will start adding more vegetables to what I am eating. Sounds like a good plan to me...will ask the wonderful husband to pick up some Spinach for me as well...yummm! I've already lost 51 pounds (over the past two years) and am looking forward to finally shedding these last 28 pounds!
