In Dr. Adkins book he gives some suggestions. I got a flaxseed supplement which helped. I only had one episode right after induction where I needed it. I too was eating raw salad and veggies and drinking the water--I don't know why it happened.

It's a system adjustment issue.

Try this, it gets my plummin' hummin' every time:
Mock Danish
3 oz. cream cheese (2 carbs)
1 egg (.6 carbs)
2-3 packet of Splenda or other art. sweetener 1-2 carbs
1/4 tsp. vanilla or other flavoring you like
1/4 tsp. cinnamon (optional)
1-2 TBS. flaxmeal

soften the cream cheese in the mic about 30 secs, covered

beat the egg into the softened cream cheese until thoroughly blended. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Nuke for 2-2:30 mins
(covered)

Let it cool a bit, you don't want to burn your tongue

Follow with 8 oz. of water.

This is my sure-fire way to get everything moving.

It's scrumptious too!!!!!!

OH and Amy.........you can come out from under your rock now. It's happened to us all at one time or another, so you are not alone and we know what it's like.

Hello,

Well I can sympathise with your situation! Even after a year I am battling it. This is what I have tried...

1. Mock danish with flax seed.... no results!
2. More veggies..... no results!
3. Increasing my water intake...... after a gal of water a day.. if it's going to work there is no need to add more!
4. slugging down 1 quart of warm water first thing when waking up! ... worked for a while..but YUCK..warm water! blaaa! LOL
5. fiber pills from the health foods stores.... made it worse! Found out that it can actually dehydrate your colon and bind you up worse.
6. laxitive... well it worked..but after a while you need to take more and more for it to work... and undesirable affects of cramping makes it really not worth it.
7. LC atkins bars....some times it works and some times it don't.... but when it does..again.. the undersirable affects of it really didn't make it worth it. Not to mention it stalled my weight loss!
8. Magnisium Citrate ... works great!

really it is a trial and error thing! You have to find what works for you!

Oh yeah, pretty normal in the beginning, especially. Generally, in later stages adding lots of veggies will do the trick....everyone's system is a little different, however.

I tend to favor psyllium husk powder, cheap and available at any health food store. Taken on a regular basis will keep you, well, regular. Without the negative effects of laxitives.

Magnesium works like a charm! I had been constipated for years, even before LC, and stumbled upon magnesium which I was taking for something else. I use the Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc combination. You can start with 400 mg magnesium per day, then work up from there. Now the only time I am constipated is when I forget to take my mag! Most of us need magnesium, anyway, so it's good for you too! This has made my life much easier! BTW, it is very effective if taken after your evening meal if you only take it once a day.

More water, less cheese. More walking, too, if you can fit it in.
