Yep, Bright:

I think we should remember that we are not all English-speaking or articulate or good spellers (me, included!).

That really doesn't matter.

What we ARE here for is to help each other.

We all have our pet peeves (the lose/loose thing gets me, too) but, who cares? I know what they mean, and that's what counts. I would hate to think that anyone would be made to feel embarassed by posting when they need advice and support.

OK?

Finally, someone touched on my biggest pet peeve! I'm a technical writer, so spelling and grammar errors really stick out and drive me insane! I know it shouldn't bother me, but it really does!

That's one of the reasons I married my husband, too-he could spell and speak grammatically correct.

And...I certainly couldn't win a national spelling bee. I only notice because I was a proof-reader once upon a time for a newspaper.

Everybody post away, Andrea doesn't grade us on spelling, thank goodness.

Take care~

Love changes all things. I thought, like Radon and April, that I could never be attracted to someone who was spelling challenged...HUGE pet peeve!

I fell in love with a brilliant man, with dyslexia! He can't spell worth a darn! He laughs that I "grade" his emails.

You learn to compromise...I proof all of his professional correspondence, he cleans house!!!
I think I'll keep him!

April

I swear, your post could have been written by me. I did the online dating thing for a short while, and I was SO turned off by some of the spelling and grammar I saw! Sadly, it is a peeve of mine, but, like Ashley, I ended up with a guy who is extremely intelligent, but is the reigning king of typo-ville and poor sentence structure in his writing (although you'd never know it to hear him speak!). We've worked it out; I just edit his memos and papers for him

Thanks Ashley for saying that about your DH. My DH also is dyslexic, and has trouble spelling. I proof all his college papers and correspondence.
He is one of the most intelligent people I know, and very kind and considerate as a husband, and a great dad. I wouldn't trade him in for a good speller any day!
So DD uses me to help her with English/Spelling homework, uses DH for Math homework.

Haha, I guess I touched a nerve.

I used to be a copywriter and proofreader, and correct spelling is important to me. I do cringe when I read a post where things are spelled so strangely that I'm not quite sure what is meant...

BUT that's not what this forum is for. And I understand that. I'm sure some of the worst spellers here are some of the best at weight loss and encouraging others. I only pointed out the Adkins/Atkins thing because I really wasn't sure what the deal was.

I certainly didn't mean to come off sounding holier-than-thou or snooty with what I said about me being a grammar and spelling nut. I've never pointed out to anyone that the proper spelling of Atkins is with a T and not a D. Doing so would probably insult the poster of a message, and I would never want that to happen for fear they would refrain from the low carb way of life since they encountered me as being critical. Feelings can be hurt and oftentimes in a post, meaning is misconstrued.

And, for the record....my first husband was totally illiterate. Totally. Ironically, that didn't drive me over the edge. I am a very tolerant person of others' shortcomings, simply because they are miniscule compared to my own.

Like April, I apologize if my posting "hit a nerve" with anyone. I have my many imperfections to deal with myself, and we all have our own personal peeves. It's nice to have a mature forum in which to discuss them. This forum really is, by far, one of the most intelligent I have stumbled across, and definitely, the most mature!

I just had to share...the marquee at Subway says, "NEW ADKINS menu items!" I laughed heartily.

Heather You have GOT to be kidding!!!! Oh that's tooooooo funny!!!!!!

BTW, DH just told me if you search on Yahoo on "Adkins," it corrects it to "Atkins."

Bottom line, no matter how someone spells here, or has bad grammar, the input is greatly appreciated. So..........everyone.......keep posting. Everyone's input is valued.

April,
If your ex was a jerk AND a bad speller, that's too much to ask Glad you got rid of him and found a great replacement!

You didn't sound snooty at all--I know (first hand) how hard it is to overlook a pet peeve. I liked your thought--someone else's spelling errors compared to my MINOR (yeah right ) imperfections usually keeps me in line.

And for those of you who are spelling challenged, here's one of my favorites:
