I'm curious why so many people spell it Adkins. Can anyone tell me?

I have NO idea. I have been wondering the same exact thing. Thanks for asking the question. As far as I am concerned, from the name on the book itself to everything else I have seen, it is aTkins.

    No clue, Terra.

Maybe they haven't read the book yet? It might make it hard to do a web search for further info.

Yeah, that's always been a pet peeve of mine on this message board, and probably because I'm a stickler for spelling and correct punctuation. It is, indeed, Atkins. Perhaps people are simply spelling the word phonetically. (Perhaps I am just making excuses for them.)

Aside: I met my now-husband online. We chatted for a while in a chat room. The only reason I continued the conversation with him initially is because he was the only person who seemed to have the ability to type in full sentences with correct spelling, and proper punctuation.

First impressions go far...even in cyberspace.

I think the ADkins spelling comes from people pronouncing the name that way.

Okay, I just wondered. Spelling errors are common enough, I guess.

I'd be upset if someone spelled my name wrong, though.

Terra, spelling "errows" bug me, too. I suppose not everyone has a knack for it. Maybe it's a right & left brain thing.

    Take care~

The one that really gets me is the "loose"/"lose" confusion. It really grates on me. I wish I could just shrug it off, but it's like hearing someone play a tune on the piano with one wrong note - over and over and over!

LOse and loose are two of the most confused words in the English language. It seems more than half the people I know don't know it's "I need to lose weight" and "My pants are loose".
But then English isn't the easiest language on earth.

Ya know Terra, everytime I see that I think, "They haven't read the book." So that's my theory on it.

In defense of poor spelling or grammar (mine in particular), we have members from all over the world. For some of us, english isn't our first language.

So thank you to all of you who notice my errors and kindly chose to ignore them. You can be certain that I rarely notice yours -unless you attempt to post in french.

Ya know Rob, the way I remember the difference between lose and loose is that loose rhymes with goose. And I know goose has two "o"s in it. Well at least that was the mnemonic I used way back when...........we won't go there. If I'm not sure how to spell a word I look it up in the dictionary. I would ask my mom how to spell a word, and she would tell me to look it up. It used to frustrate me, but now I'm glad she cultivated that skill in me. Correct spelling is one of my pet peeves too. So if I have spelled a word wrong, it's most likely a typo and not a true lack of know-how. Sometimes I see my errors and just say, "Whateva....I'm too tired to change it."

    ROLMBO @ brightlady!

Yup.. I am one of them dreaded mis-speller! lol I don't use proper grammer either. So I want to take the time to thank ye all for over looking my errors! LOL

Bright brings up a good point too about ppl from all over the world. I have a friend from NZ and Canada.. and they spell the same words differently. I wish I could remember one off the top of my head, but I thought it was interesting.
