Hello everyone!

I have been on induction for eight days now and so far I have lost nine pounds. I have followed it very closely, no cheating & drinking lots of water. HOWEVER, could someone let me know if lack of sleep or very light sleep is one of the detox symtoms? It's very bizarre-I close my eyes to sleep and my mind is racing a mile a minute-seems like all of a sudden I have sonic hearing and I wake up to every sound-even the sound of the furnace coming on. I haven't had a good nights rest since I started this. Any advice for this sleep-deprived inductee?!?!!

Did you give up caffine? Sometimes that will cause some sleeplessness problems when you are detoxing from it.

hi goldealox,

I can say that for myself that happens. It is due to all that increased energy from this WOE! It will level its self out and you should start to sleep better. Some have even reported not needing as much sleep as they use to in order to feel refreshed! BTW.. as mentioned caffine will do that too. I didn't and won't give up my diet pepsi or high octain coffee.. but found I can not drink it after say 7 or 8 o'clock or I won't sleep and have the same thing happen to me that is happing to you!

I had the same problem - my doctor said it's from having a higher metabolism.

Try to drink the majority of your water by 3 - 4:00 in the afternoon. Avoid heavy and late dinners. If you must snack, make it light and simple, like turkey salad and celery. Do check out herbal sleep aids. I have also found that a cup of warm turkey (not chicken!) broth 1/2 hour before bed helps TONS!

Your body will adjust - by the end of the second week. You will find that you are able to stay up later or rise earlier as your energy level increases. (oh goody, extra time to do dishes????)

You'll be fine.

YEP.

I have been told that for *some* people this is a symptom of going into ketosis.
Any time I have to reinduct or if I have been bumped out of ketosis for a while and I go back on plan, strictly, I have insomnia for about a week.
I go to sleep and then wake up around 3 or 4 am...
Sometimes it takes me ages just to fall asleep!

However, I will say this: Once my body adjusts, I find that I actually sleep better while eating this way! I just have to get through that annoying insomnia first.
HTH,

Summer

Yep, those are normal symptoms. They dwindle over time.

I think it's from a temporary reduction in serotonin in the brain. Insulin helps L-tryptophan to cross the blood-brain barrier to get to the brain, where it's converted to serotonin, the chemical that helps us fall asleep at night.

During induction, your body is experiencing a substantial reduction in insulin levels. Lower serotonin levels mean you don't feel as sleepy for a while.
