This is day 5 and I know I shouldn't weigh everyday but hey - during the beginning don't we all? Anyway the scale isn't moving at all yet and of course it gets discouraging so I am wondering if maybe I am not eating enough to get things going. Maybe someone can tell me.

This week has been crazy at work and I am a little off schedule but here goes pretty much what I've been eating.

Breakfast: either Atkins shake or 3-4 sausage patties and coffee/diet coke
Lunch: salad and burger/ chopped bbq, green beans/ burger with fixings/
Dinner: salad and cheeseburger quiche (from a LC cookbook)/ burgers/ salad bar
A couple of days I had an Atkins candy bar as a snack or else some cheese/salami and one day I had some Breyer's LC ice cream mixed with Hood LC choc milk for a milk shake (this was fantastic BTW)

I haven't had as much water as I should but I work in a store and going to the bathroom all day is out of the question, especially this week.
I hope someone can help me figure out what to do to get things going.

Thanks and sorry for the length.
Lydia

I'm on my fifth day also, but I would cut out the shakes and the candy bars, at least during induction. I wouldn't even think of anything like that to eat right now. That's just my honest opinion, someone more experienced may be able to help more.

I tend to wonder about the Atkins shakes. I agree with the candy bars because of the sugar alcohols and their ability to stall, but the shakes don't have them, just Splenda. Cut them out of your diet and see what happens.

Even if you can't get much water during work, make sure to get a good amount before and after. You shouldn't compromise on water. There are 24 hours in the day, give 8 for sleep and 8 for work and you still have about 8 left. You'll keep yourself hydrated and functioningg properly if you stick with a good amount of water. Also, coffee and diet drinks can affect some people. Perhaps you want to cut those out for about a week and see if that makes a difference?

Exercise is also very good. Not just the kind of exercise that you can get working, but just walking for half an hour around the block at a good pace can work wonders. HTH

The shakes, bars, etc...you really shouldn't have on inductions. That Carb Smart icecream has High Fructose Corn Syrup in it....I don't eat it at all.

You really need your water...get as much as you can. Also, make sure you are getting enough vegis. Most of your carbs should come from this.

Right now, you are trying to "detoxify" your body...Stick to simple foods, and avoid l/c junk food for at least the first 2 weeks. (Personally, I avoid it as much as possible ALL the time)

Welcome, Lydia.

There is nothing in an Atkins shake that would stall you. But, remember to use them sparingly. The point of this way of eating is to learn what REAL foods you can eat - and there is a huge selection as you move from induction to OWL.

For induction, other than an occasional shake, lose EVERYTHING ELSE that says "LC" on it. Without going into excessive detail, it's not always strictly true, as you'll learn hanging around this forum.

Eat real foods from the induction food lists and drink lots of water. 64 oz it the bare minimum and twice that is better. A good rule of thumb is take your weight in pounds and divide in half, then drink that many ounces of water over the course of a day - not all at once.

HTH

Hi Lydia (my dear sister's name!)...

If you are on Induction I would URGE you NOT to eat anything except the fresh vegetables, proteins (fish and meats) and the acceptable dairy.

One of the reasons that low carb works is that you are training your body to process what it was designed to process - NOT the additives, and other chemicals and junks in the low carb products.

I just sent you a private post in which I have included some stuff to read that I think will help you... especially the ideas for meals and menus...

I'm with Maggie all the way on this (I usually am, Maggie is brilliant) eat only REAL, WHOLE foods! I'll bet you notice the difference rapidly...

Hugs,
Rachel

Why don't you try to hold off on the bars utnil after inductin. They will mess you up. I like to have some beef sticks or pepperoni around incase I am hungry.

Also, Are you drinking water? I was a skeptic on the whole water business, but it is helpful!

Have someone hide the scale from you (and don't look for it). I had to do that!

Good luck all!!

I wouldn't eat the bars at ANY stage of the diet.

The shakes sound very benign. I can't stand the taste of them, but all the ingredients are A-OK. I don't see why you couldn't drink them at any time.

In general, most low-carb "treats" will sabotage you. Don't feel safe eating something just because somebody slaps the words "low carb" on it. There is a LOT of junk out there. They want your money, not your health.

I thought caffeine was a no-no as well due to it stalling weightloss?

Hankat - some people find that caffeine stalls them, others don't. Happily, I am one who has had no problems consuming caffeine and losing weight. YMMV

jestey: How fast did your weight come off and how quick did you shrink? I see you registered the end of august, just wondering if that's when you started LC.

Well, keep in mind that your mileage may vary - everyone is different. I started Atkins on May 15 (I had already lost 15 pounds since Jan 1 using low fat, low carb - blech!). I lost 30 pounds by September. Sizewise, I went from a tight 12 to a 4 (I have a small frame). Since then, I have lost tiny increments in measurements, but am gaining and losing the same 2 pounds over and over. Frankly, no biggie. I have another 10 pounds ti get to goal weight - I would be happy with 5, and certainly won't chnage my way of eating if I never lose another pound.
