Greetings all! This forum is a God-send, in my option. There is just no way I could continue day-to-day without seeing all the great advise here.

Now I have a question. Unfortunately, I have found myself to be quite ill with an awful cold. I am just NOT HUNGRY. Will not eating a whole lot affect my induction success to the point where I should "start over"? I am in my first week and I've lost 5 lbs. already (yeah! ) and I really feel teriffic. Also, does anyone know if cold medicines affect ketosis? I am re-reading the Atkins book, as I had read the "old" version (from '92) previously.

Thank you so much for the support! You ALL are wonderful!

Stick with the pills not the liquids.
As far as eating too little, what can you do. I know when I have the flu chicken soup and hot tea is what I live on. I couldn't handle anything heavier. IMHO just eat what you can until you feel well enough to get back on plan. You'll probably lose weight just from lack of calories and a week or so of too few calories probably won't send you into starvation mode.
I always figure that when you're ill do what your body tells you to.

Thank you, Rob. It is just so nice to know there's people out there to provide encouragement.

I REALLY am committed to this being my WOE for LIFE. And I want to do everything possible to ensure I am doing Atkins exactly right.

Thanks!

Rob's right, stick to LC soups and teas.
If your tummy's upset, tea made from ginger root will help you feel a lot better.

I would definitely try and eat something, even if it's broth with dry wheat toast. You won't have any energy if you don't eat. I just had a cold last week and used a lot of vicks rub, drank diet snapple and had Chicken soup. I bought some Phantusus brand Diabetics choice cough syrup which has no corn syrup, sugar, etc.

Hillbeans - Thanks. I was wondering about cough syrup and the carbs. I feel so dedicated to this WOE that I won't even let a cough drop touch my lips.

I am feeling better today and ate some sausage and cheese wedge for breakfast. Having salad with grilled chicken breast for lunch. I think the food actually makes me feel better!

I'm getting over the flu, right now.

I decided not to give in to temptation and use Hall's Ice Blue cough Drops, my old favorite. Instead, I used Altoid's Spearmint Breath Strips.

Heheh! It worked pretty good! It sure opens your breathing passages.

Thank you everyone! I have only been taking a calcium/magnesium supplement (liquid). I know I must take a multi. I'm going to GNC TODAY.

Thanks again!

Brightlady
I made that ginger root tea once and it was a miracle for my cold. But I forget exactly the proportions to make it. I remember putting honey in it but I wasn't low carbing at the time.

How much sliced root to put in really depends on how strong you like it. I put in about 2-3" worth to about 4 cups of water. Be sure to peel it first. It will be stronger the longer it steeps too. I add a bit of lemon and splenda to mine. It taste like hot Vernors (ginger ale).

Also be careful to buy sugarfree cough drops if you need them. Halls makes them and can be bought in a baggie in most pharmacies.

I recently had that nasty flu and if I ate at all I found that this was the easiest stuff I could handle:

- chicken soup
- hot sugarfree jello (GREAT to coat yer throat)
- lots of water
- hot chamomile tea

GET WELL SOON!!!!!
