Hi,
This is my first post here but I have been reading here for about two weeks. I have been on a low carb diet since 11-20-03 and have lost 22 pounds and now I am stuck. I haven't lost any weight for about three weeks now. Does anyone have any ideas to get my weight coming off again? I have been drinking about 100 ounces of water a day. I eat no more than 20 carbs a day. Should I go even lower to get another kick start? Any help would be appreciated. Everyone here seems to be so thoughtful and supportive. Thanks!! Toni

Hi Toni, nice to meet you!

If you check the search feature, there are many, many, MANY posts of people with stalls (Including myself ) So feel free to read some of the past wonderful advice. What you could try is actually upping your carbs alittle to see if that works, otherwise theres not much you can do except what you have already been doing and just wait for, as everyone calls it here, the Whoosh. Everyone's body is different and loses weight differently, this may just be your body taking some time to adjust to you current weight loss. I've personally been in a stall since Christmas time and I'm waiting patiently also!! Good luck to you though!!

Hey, 22 pounds is a lot of weight! I think you're doing great. It looks like you've gotten halfway there in a few months.

You shouldn't be staying in the induction phase for that long. As many others will tell you, your body will get too used to it and you won't be able to lose weight very quickly. Eat lots more veggies and you should start losing again.

"Stalling" is normal. Just about everyone does it.

Have you been staying at the induction level for the whole 2 months? Are you eating veggies? You really should move onto OWL. Here's a link to a thread you should read: An Unreasonable Fear OWLS

It was originally posted in the Ongoing Weight Loss thread.

Hi again,
Yes I am eating a few veggies -broccoli,lettuce,green beans- but that's about it on the veggies. I am mainly eating meats and eggs and cheese and snacking on nuts. I don't really have a big appetite now. I suppose all the protien is causing that, so sometimes I have to 'make' myself eat something because I know I should. I have read a few posts about people being 'afraid' to eat more carbs and that describes me exactly. I guess because it was so easy to lose at first with practically no carbs at all, I just assumed I would keep losing. I will try adding more carbs and keep you all posted on what happens. Thank you so much - all of you - for your support and understanding.

Another thing to remember is that as you get closer to your ideal weight, you start loosing weight at a slower rate. Just keep on going with the plan and you will be fine.

Toni, your body will get incredibly efficient at turning protein into glucose if you don't include more veggies into your WOL. It is imperative that you eat more veggies. As for lettuce, try to include darker green leafy salad greens to your salads. They are much healthier, while iceberg is void of any useable nutrients. I love to add BABY spinach to my salads. They have a much firmer texture and really holds onto dressings. Also try chopping up celery, cukes, raw zucchini, yellow squash, radishes, jicama and LOAD your salads with that kind of stuff. You can hardly taste it if you chop it finely and douse it with dressing. Another way to get more veggies in is to make homemade soups with canned chicken broth. Add some of the above mentioned veggies. You will hardly taste them, along with whatever meats you like and maybe some garlic, a bit of onion, a bay leaf. YUM!!!!

Hi Toni,
Welcome to LCe!
Congrats on the 22 lbs gone...WOOHOO for you
Sometimes when you have big losses like that, your body simply has to "catch up with itself". The weight loss slows or stops for a brief period, and then you may start losing again, and it maybe at a little slower rate. Are you getting near goal?Just be patient, increase your carbs in 5 gm increments per week, with the bulk of your carbs being dark green leafy, and low glycemic veggies or fresh berries. Hang it there, you are doing good
