| I can understand the money issue! Been there did that/ still doing that! lol Have you checked your local library? That is a good way to get the book to read it. Usually if they don't have it they can get it for you. Until then go to www.atkins.com for basics and some great information. ON the net carb issue. On a lable you will see the carb count. Then under it you will see fiber. To get "net" carbs always subtract the fiber from the total carb count. Fiber does not digest there for it is subtracted. For example.... your looking at something that has 5 grams of carbs.. and 3grams of fiber. It would be 2 NET grams of carbs. Sugar alcohols are a different issue. Until induction is over you should stay away from any atkins or like brands of bars. They will subtract sugar alcohol and say "ONLY 2 NET CARBS" when infact it has like 21 grams of carbs of sugar alcohols. For MOST ppl they will cause ppl to stall or worse yet GAIN. I know it is confusing. but hang in there you will get the hang of it! "No more looking back and saying "what if", now I look forward and see success!" | Welcome to the forum. Look for the book in the library-for now, but you should eventually buy it. Also look at Possible help for newbies... As for not having the money for Atkins brand food, that is not necessairly a bad thing. A lot of those low carb treats tend to stall people (such as glycerine and sugar alcohols). Many people here believe it is best to stick to natural unprocessed food - meats, veggies, eggs etc. Started on 9/20/03 235-->190; 150 goal |

| You can check the book out for free at your local library...Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. Obviously, you have InterNet access, so you can research online about the low carb way of life for free. You can come here and post your questions and get answers for free. There is absolutely no need to eat pre-packaged low carb foods. I never have, and have lost over 140 pounds. Short of research and checking out the book, go here to begin: Rules of Induction As for net carbs, also known as ECC (effective Carbohydrate Content), here's the equation: Carbs - dietary fiber = ECC Example: Walnuts 3 grams of carbs per serving 3 grams of dietary fiber per serving 0 net carbs per serving Hope this helps...
