Hi there everyone. My name is Penny, and I am coming back to Low Carb and I am terrified. I started back in July and was on the LC WOE approximately 2 weeks or so.. I lost close to 10 lbs. I was doing great! I was attending a gym, and they had a trainer come talk with me. He talked with me, and told me that he felt I should come off of the LC "drastic" eating lifestyle because inevitably it wouldn't be good for me. Well I stopped, and tried it "his way"... I couldn't hang with it, and I gained all back plus a few pounds extra. Now, I am ready and wanting to try again, but I am scared. I know it sounds so crazy..but I am afraid that I will fail.. I am afraid that I won't be able to have a wonderful success story as so many other men and women have had. If there is anyone that may have been in a similar situation as mine.. could you please share with me. I will need as much support as I can get. I am ready, and I want to lose this weight!

Thank you in advance!!
Love,
Penny

Hi Penny and welcome back to the LC woe! I know how you must feel, but you have come to right place! You will find so much encouragment and support from the people here! I know that you will succeed if you stick to it. We all fail from time to time, but we just have to pick ourselves up, dust off and get back on!

We're all in this together!

Hi Penny!!! Welcome to our "happy little home"

Stop and think about what you have said. The exercise guru that talked you into going back to the way you ate before has now been proven to be wrong, correct? You already proved to yourself that this WOL (way of LIVING) works. Right? You know in your heart that it works. The exercise guru doesn't know what he's talking about and has bought into the backward thinking that so many people buy into. You know this WOL is HEALTHY if you do it right. Eat your veggies along with your meat. Add back healthy nuts and fruit at the right time. Have you read your book, of your eating plan choice? If not, read it through, beginning to end. You might want to get yourself a copy of Protein Power by the Eades, both MD's. It makes a lot of sense. It helped me a LOT. As long as you eat a good balance of HEALTHY foods, you will do well. Low-carbing is not NO-carbing. We do eat carbs, just good, whole, healthy carbs. We have rid ourselves of junk food, pure and simple. No more JUNK. Who can argue with that.

Keep coming back here with your concerns, we are more than happy to help.

Again, WELCOME and glad you are joining our happy family!!!!

First, you should learn kickboxing. Then you should go kick that "trainer" in the cojones.

That's sad he would sabotage you like that. Get yourself a good doctor who goes along with low-carbing, and don't listen to some trainer whose only expertise is in doing pull-ups.

Hey, Doc, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

No, seriously, I do agree with Dr. I. That guy is a trainer. He can teach you how to exercise, but for solid information about your health, go to a professional.

And Barb, as usual, is absolutely right. I really got a lot of good information from the Protein Power book; I don't think any other plan explains it as well as they do. And for one of the best arguements for LC I have ever read, check out the Eades' rebuttal in the Diet and Health News forum.

Whatever plan you choose, just know that it WORKS. A whole bunch of us here are living proof. I did the same thing you did; I listened to nay-sayers about how it will give me heart disease, damage my kidneys, yadda yadda. I quit, gained back everything I had lost and then some. This time, it's for life, and it's the best thing I have ever done for myself. A year and almost 80 pounds later, I bless the day I made that commitment.

You can do this. It won't always be easy, and things won't always go smoothly, but we're here to help, and rooting for you every step of the way.

Atkins didn't work for my parents. They've tried it so recently that they're going to send me their Atkins pancake mix that they never opened. (Hmmm. . . the frankenfoods effect?) Low fat seems to be their thing. Not everything can be all things to all people. Sounds like low carb works for you, as it works for me, so nobody else's opinions matter. Each week when I talk to my mom, she tells me "sounds like you're doing great! be careful!"

Hi Penny. I too am returning to the Low Carb WOE. I lost 12 pounds using first Atkins, and then South Beach. I was beginning a religious fast, and got very ill. My doctor told me that I had an ulcer, and that I had to eat six small meals each day to minimize the damage and prevent further erosion.
I got very depressed becuase this fast is a very important part of my religion, and I felt so alienated from everyone else. So I started eating, but everything I shouldn't! Now my stomach is hanging over my waist again, and I feel lousy!
I have chosen to go Atkins again, because I actually did well with it, and lost the most weight. Also, it allows things that I like, such as meat and salads.
I'm glad to have someone else re-starting with me. I'm pretty scared too, but I think we can be a support for one another.
Keep posting, and so will I.

I have a similar story but in reverse. Two years ago, my brother was LCing and doing well, I took him aside and told him that he needed to stop that it was going to bad for his liver.

Needless to say, I just gave him my book and had to take him aside again and say, "Robert, I'm very sorry, you were doing so well and I was wrong. Very wrong. Please forgive me, and get back on it, its great"

Someday, that trainer, should be apologizing to you too when he realizes just how wrong he was.

I think the best evidence to throw at the health professionals that just don't get it is your blood profile. If a trainer tried to talk me out of it, I could just say, well, I'm off my HBP meds, my triglicerides are down 15% and I haven't felt better. . .

Welcome Karimah!!! We will help you too. It's great to have you with us!!! I bet donuts to dollars if you stick with this WOL your stomach problems may get better. Were you checked by your doctor for the H. pylori bacterium in your digestive tract? That has been found to be the culprit with some ulcers. If he/she hasn't checked you, why not????????????? If you are not sure, I would call them to find out. I believe they can help rid you of it with anti-biotics.
My CHRONIC heartburn has completely disappeared being on this WOL!!!

Penny, I'm so good you started this thread. I'm starting back on induction today for the 5th or 6th time at least. I know that it works for me, but some thing or another always derails me. After a HORRENDOUS Thanksgiving weekend, I'm back on track now. Hoping to get support and reinforcement from this board.

Penny,

Your eating plan and your health will be your own story. It's not a race and it's not a competition. You already know that the plan works for you and the benefits are so far off the scale (pun intended) that it will no longer matter what a trainer has told you!

Stick to it. Use this board for encouragement and resources and you will be an even bigger winner than you are now.

Karimah,

I have two coworkers who fast for religious observance. One has no problem, the other has been told by her doctor to forgo the fast as it damages her health. She spoke to her religious leader who assured her that taking care of her health should take precedence. It takes nothing away from your devotion to take care of the body you live in. Welcome back to the WOE that will permit the body you live in to become healthier.

You remind me of myself when I started in July of this year. I was so defeated and depressed. The idea of having to lose almost 100lbs seem to be more of a task than I could consider, let alone do. I had done a diet something like Atkins (which I assumed "then" was Atkins) and failed. It was the grace of God that made me give it one more try. And it was this site that keep me on the stright and narrow, even when I strayed. My family thought I was crazy and the people at work were having a field day tell me how eating "no carbs" would kill me. Today I have almost lost 50lbs and only have bout 25 - 30 lbs to go. Today it seem like a bad dream, being tired all time, being depressed, not fitting into my clothes, wanting to sleep all them time, I was a mess. Now I feel if this dying, what a way to go. I also say of my Atkins experience; I went looking for silver and found GOLD. May all God blessing be with you and your efforts. I shall keep you in my prayers and I look forward to hearing of your many successes.

If God is for me, who can be againist me?
