Like several other frustrated people I have been readings posts from today I lost a few pounds but they have suddenly returned for no apparent reason. I have several questions about what I might be doing wrong, but will not get into it all just yet. One thing I'm wondering though, is if almonds might be a culprit? I know they are a legal snack, and even if you eat the whole can of Blue Diamond brand, it is a total of 12 net carbs (I believe -- don't have a can in front of me right now). I do eat almonds every day and some days might polish off the entire can before the day's end. I am eating 20-30 carbs per day (including a big salad), drinking lots of water, and exercising religiously. Almonds are a perfect snack for me (crunchy, salty, finger food), but if I must limit them, I will......but only if I HAVE to! The metabostix show pink every single day. Thoughts anyone????

If your weight loss has slowed and you've recently added almonds, it's a good bet that your body is telling you that it can't tolerate nuts and still lose weight. I know I can't, days that I 'break down' and have too many peanuts or cashews (or almonds) I inevitably don't lose or gain a lb. There are other possibilities too, avoid caffeine for instance, make sure you're getting enough water, and avoid the shakes, bars, and 'products.' Good luck!

dkb,
While almonds are low in carbs, they are pretty calorie and fat dense. The amount recommended by Atkins, is not more than one ounce per day which is 22-24 whole almonds. Also, if you are eating salted almonds, that can contribute to water retention and slow to no weight loss.

One other thing that I have noticed about nuts is that the makers tend to add sugar along with salt sometimes. You should check the ingredient list on the back just to make sure.

A cup of almonds has over 950 calories, so if you're eating that many I think it might be the problem.

Looking at the label of Smokehouse almonds (if that's the kind you're eating) 12 grams of net carbs would be over 1000 calories. Yikes.

If your sticks are pink and you're eating lots of Blue Diamond almonds, I would suspect the salt is the culprit. The good news, you can just mentally deduct the water weight because it's not permanent. It's just a temporary annoyance.

We only keep raw almonds around our house. It is easier for me to stop at a dozen or so -unlike the salted ones.

I also suspect it's the salt. I use unsalted, whole almonds. Cut back on the almonds, drink a ton of water to flush the salt and see what happens.
