    Hello everyone...
I have been planning to go on Atkins for a few days now. I live a hectic life (don't we all) between work, law school, being a wife and a mother of a 7 year old...so I always had a reason for starting "tomorrow". I told myself last night that today was the day. This morning I stopped by the supermarket and purchased some necessities...roasted chicken, veggies, cheese, etc. I passed the dairy department and had a moment of weakness. A bottle of nesquik chocolate milk (my love)went into my shopping carriage. I shrugged and to myself said "tomorrow is okay". After I unloaded my groceries at home I logged onto LCE and read the latest posts, saw some progress photos and decided that tomorrow wasn't ok. I pushed the chocolate milk (62 carbs in one small bottle) to the back of the fridge (my daughter will find it later) and had a nice breakfast of bacon and eggs. I then completed (for the first time in months) a 35 minute workout. I feel so good about myself and realize that I am on my way. I just wanted to share this with all of you and thank you for giving me the courage, determination and the swift kick in the rear I most desperately needed.
    Many thanks...

    ghstgrl,
Way to go!!! You CAN do this! Tomorrow is NOW!

As for the chocolate milk, if you get a really bad craving for it, you do have other choices.

Try the Soy Slender chocolate milk. It has 1 carb per 8 oz glass and tastes out of this world.
Or there is Carb Countdown milk. it comes in whole, 2% and chocolate. It has 3 carbs per 8 oz glass.

I find I like the Soy Slender better but that's just me.
Do be careful not to have it in the induction phase and watch if it knocks you out of ketosis.
It is a YMMV (your mileage may vary) type thing.

Good for you, Ghst. Keep in mind that there's nothing especially complicated about LC. In the early stages, it's how many ways can you cook eggs?

As I read your post, I'm sitting here sipping a low-carb chocolate shake--pretty good sub for the Nesquick. Once you get past induction, you can try one of these, as long as it doesn't prompt a craving of some kind.

Best wishes! And those roasted chickens you can pick up at Costco, or just about any grocery, are a delicious timesaver!

I greatly appreciate your replies of motivation and suggestions for my chocolate milk fix once I am out of induction. Chocolate has always been a downfall for me. I am sure this woe will be a rude awakening for someone who has never watched what they eat and have always (until now) lived off of pasta and bread. So far so good...I feel fine and have no cravings, but this is only the first day. I'm sure you'll hear from me again once the withdrawals hit somewhere around day three. Thanks again for the support...

    Ghstgrl,

I hear you-I work full time, am taking 9 hours at school, have an 8 year old and a 2 year old, and a cop husband who's schedule is hectic. I can't always rely on him to help out with the day-to-day stuff. I had the same "Aha" moment reading these boards a few months ago. Tomorrow is NOT ok. Once I understood how bad carbs affect my body and had a couple of cheats and understanding of how miserable they made me feel, I decided 'NO MORE'. Today, right now is the time to start.

congrats to both of you for hearing your "aha" moment. We all get them at different times in our lives, mine hit last summer and I have been going at this WOE since then. It does get easier, your cravings for choc slacken, and you will feel so much better with the fresh veggies you are eating that a month will go by without you realizing, then another month, etc....
good luck to both of you on your new way of eating.

Welcome! As working women (and men) with families, our lives are so busy. We all like to put things off for another day, but sometimes that "a-ha" moment just happens. Mine wasn't so distinct. My mother was very ill last summer with cancer. She passed away in August, and it was around that time I really decided I wanted to be around for my family and son (3) for as long as possible. I have friends who do the "Trim-spa" pills, but they're not changing one thing in their eating behaivor. I started getting serious about going to the gym 5 nights a week and now if I miss a night, I really have a hard time with it. I love being a size 8 (after weighing 180 after having my child) and I have so much energy. You can do this. Good luck and post often.

You both must live on a planet with 36 hour days. I applaud you both for your resolve. And while I'm at it - everyone on this forum deserves a hand.

Thanks, Rob-I couldn't do it without my Palm organizer. Really-my whole LIFE is in there: work, school, my daughter's soccer practice, shopping lists, recipes. etc. Staying organized definitely helps me wear all my hats!

Ghstgrl, I'm so happy for you, you've had an epiphany!!! That is awesome!!! Be sure and check out the recipes up at the top in the green box and the beginner's guide at the very top of the page. Have you read the book yet? If not, I would suggest it, if you can fit it into your busy life.

    You GO girl!!!!
