I'm 34 years old . When I was 18 I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowl Syndrom. I have suffered for years. I would get attacks at least twice a week. These attacks consisted of severe abdominal pain , followed by bouts of diarrhea or constipation. This syndrom controlled me . If I felt a little discomfort in the morning. I would stay in my house until I had some relief. Didn't like to travel, (you just never know) an attack could last for hours. If anyone has or had this I'm sure they can relate. In my life I seen 2 specialists regrarding IBS . They both told me the same thing." I must stay away from fatty foods and especially GREEN vegetables, such as broccoli and romaine lettuce. "

Now my point to all this chatter. Ive been on this WOE for over 2 months now ..I have lost 17 lbs and it seems I have also lost my Irritable Bowl Syndrom. Don't get me wrong .. I'm so happy ! But yet angry too. *note* A specialist is someone who is highly knowledgeable* I'm eating nothing but "fat" (olive oil, fish, and other lean meats) and GREEN vegetables. Evidently it has to be the diet . What else could it be?

Ive learned so much in these 2 months. I have 13 more lbs to lose until I reach my goal weight. Frankly I don't give a damn if I lose another pound. I've realized that feeling good is so much more superior than looking good. I have the energy of a child. My hair looks and feels healthy. I don't even worry about silly things anymore. I feel so young and healthy ! Ive also learned that Doctors around here don't know their ****. This is not a diet for me ..This is my life now . Dr Atkins is the real Hero!
If someone else has lost their IBS on this WOE I would love to hear about it .

Thanks for listening .
Sara

Hi Sara.

Good for your on your 17 lbs. gone! I agree that Dr. Atkins is the Hero, he's MY hero, too My DH has IBS and I am showing him your post. Hopefully it will get him to thinking. Personally, I detest doctors and try to avoid them whenever possible!

Keep up the good work!

Sara,

OMG.. your story hits the nail right on the head for myself. I have suffered with it for years. I could never pin point exactly what triggered it either. HOw ever even as far back as my first attempt with LC I noticed it was GONE after the first week! In the last year I think I had only a few episodes..but they were self inflicted because I was off on HC eating. That is definitly a not so nice reminder of WHY I eat low carb. LOL From what I understand.. the medical communitity don't know what causes IBS.. they just go on hunches and tell you there own opionion. Personaly.. I think we both know what causes it.. and what don't cause it!

I think the health issues are a side effect of low-carbimg, I'm not a gambling man but I would bet that at least half of the people in here have seen an improvement in health as well as losing weight.

Thank you for posting this thread. My mom had been "diagnosed" with IBS quite a few years ago and was told to go off the high fats and green veggies. She was overweight and we all thought that her weight was the reason. She tried every diet under the sun to no avail with weight OR the IBS. She tried Atkins in 1998 and has ZERO problem since and has lost all kinds of weight! We truly believe that HCs are the reason for this crazy problem. When I met and married my DH in 2002, I recognized the same symptoms in him. He's only 23 and he though I was crazy. We started induction last Saturday (my mom's advice)and he feels so much better! It is practically gone and he has lost weight that gives him more energy to exercise, etc. I truly believe this WOE is the way to go!

My 2 cents . . .

I have been a member of this Forum for 3 months and the word DEAR is not the word I thought everyone was referring to in DH. So, I just want to say Thank You for clarifying this for me.

Although I've never been diagnosed with IBS, I used to have the same trouble all the time. It started when I was 20 or 21 -- about the same time I started piling on the pounds. Since I started this WOE, I haven't had an "attack" except once which I am pretty sure was actually just bad food.

Yet another reason this WOL (way of life) is the BEST!!!! It irks me how clueless doctors are, especially when it comes to nutrition. I have to add, my indigestion is COMPLETELY gone, which I suffered from for yrs and yrs. It's not a miracle, it's sensible. I love it!!!!

And I am so happy to hear stories like this.

I went to Trader Joe's today and asked if they had any whole wheat tortillas. They had some and I looked at the carbs........about 23 per each one. I said," Oh I can't use these they are too high in carbs. I'm LCing." The lady next to me in line said she was too. We talked about La Tortilla Factory ones and both love them. The checkout clerk said, "I hope you're not doing that Atkins" I said, "Why yes as a matter of fact I am. I've never eaten so many vegetables in my life and never felt better. We don't eat just bacon, eggs and steak." I think I got an eyebrow raise from it.

I'm really not surprised that other people are feeling great on this woe. It's nice to hear that I'm not alone . I know if I continue to eat this way I will never suffer from this again.

Barb.. Isn't it awful having to deal with negative people? I have family members that nag me everyday because of my new way of life. I don't have much support that's why I come here. Thankyou everyone !
