I’m only on Day Five of Induction; had a pretty good weekend and stayed to plan (except I goofed and had some rye toast with my cheese omelet at one meal). But I feel well, and my Keto Stix have been pleasantly pink since Saturday (working on getting them a little darker.)

While it was a little hard to get out of bed this morning, I attribute that to the normal Monday (not to mention winter) blahs, rather than any real lack of energy. Because I have noticed that while I am not jumping up and down, I distinctly do NOT feel run-down, hardly-keep-my-eyes-open, wanting a nap before noon like I have been accepting as the norm these last umpteen months. So while I have yet to get that anticipated burst of high energy (hoping that will hit in another day or so) I feel GREAT compared to just how I was last week.

It also helps that I got on the scale this morning and saw my first Whoosh… four pounds down and it’s only Day Five. That sound you hear is me smiling! I know it’s going to be mostly water at this point but I don’t care- I noticed my face does not appear as bloated today and its four pounds of fluid I shouldn’t be carrying around anyway. I’m hoping it’s the first of many Whooshes!

Just wanted to update you wonderful people… I know all of you will appreciate my excitement. I spent a half-hour trying to explain the low-carb principle to my mother while riding in the car to dinner. While not exactly a nay-saying saboteur (she is trying to be supportive in her own way), so far she just doesn’t get it. She tells me it sounds “confusing”. (I’m probably explaining it wrong.) She herself lost a nice amount of weight a while back doing typical low-fat dieting, but has since probably put about 10 pounds back on. (Just not willing to part with bagels and pasta). I don’t point it out because I don’t go around criticizing other people’s eating habits… too many years of my own diet attempts being attacked, I guess.

The same goes for my Sister in Law’s current Slim-Fast program. She’s happy with it and I’m glad for her and I keep my mouth shut, even when I want to slap the can out of her hand and holler, “Look at the label! Do you SEE all that sugar? You’re losing a little but do you want to have to drink that stuff for the rest of your life if you want to maintain it? For the love of God, woman, let me make you some baked chicken, asparagus and a salad with a low-carb cream cheese brownie for dessert!”

But, as I said, I keep my mouth shut.

I’m hoping to lead by example and then eventually they will see that I am succeeding and will eventually ask to learn more about “that controlled-carb thing”. Meantime, I just ignore mom’s horrified glance when I take a second helping of Prime Rib and dare to put real cream in my coffee. I know in my heart I am doing the right thing for my well being and that my path is not necessarily theirs or anyone else’s.

Just my lc ramble for the day!

Drama
Congratulations on the whoosh. I agree it's best to keep quiet about other peoples diets as long as they can do the same for ours. I tried to explain the low carb principle to my father. after a 5 minute explanation of insulin and fat and carbs he only had one question. "what's a carbohydrate?" LOL

In an hour discussion over the phone with my mother, we had the same conversation but she wanted to know how I could just quit eating what the pyramid says we should have 11 servings ofeach day--In her day it was the four food groups but it was the same number of servings. I told her to lop off the bottom and the top and use it for a trapeziod because those in the middle were where it was at. She just laughed--she won't criticize if it works--couldn't care less how I lose weight as long as it comes off and I am healthy and around to raise her granddaughter. She has done it basically without knowing anything about Atkins after my brother wwas born she fed us three kids and ate what we wouldn't--the meat and the veggies only and lost almost 50 lbs. She had cream of wheat or cream of rice for breakfast everymorning with us and ate around our tastes for lunch and supper. I remember her getting really thin but was too young to really care then. She is telling me this while I am describing why my doctor suggested I go on a diabetic restricted diet and was shocked when I told him I already had and was doing Atkins. Believe it or not--the doctor was happy and wants to do blood work every 3 months but otherwise only see me as needed for my other health conditions--of which I have my share and someone else's as well--I am a medical mess.

Anyway, I keep my diet to myself and am happily doing well on it--down 19.5 in 3 weeks I am happy to report!

Drama, that was a nice ramble and congrats on the whooooooosh!!!!

Here's my rant from another post I just made. I just copied and pasted it,

I had a debate with my sister awhile back about LCing. She was eating dinner at my house, hadn't seen me for quite sometime and my weight loss was quite evident. I served broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, salad and chicken roasted in olive oil and herbs. We were having a nice conversation about how I ate and the exercise I do and all that. Suddenly she looked up over her glasses at me, with her head averted and said, "Ya know Barb, Atkins is very dangerous." THAT flipped my switch. I stood up, picked my plate up, held it in front of her and said, "Tell me, what is dangerous about this meal." She said, "I don't know the biochemicals of it all. Too much protein." The chicken was just keels (tenderloins) and I had ONE on my plate. I said, "You mean to tell me you think this way of eating is dangerous? I eat like this all the time." I told her I gave up doritos, pringles, cake, candy and all that kind of garbage. She had NO defense. All she knew was what she'd "heard." I think I will stay off the doritos, etc., in exchange for my better blood pressure, increased energy, exercise, and slimmer body. Maybe she's right, maybe doritos and sugar ARE healthier, I just would rather not take the chance of eating healthier by her standards.
