Hi All its me again for an update. Well Im working on my month goal of sticking with this woe, so I'm happy with that. But I did my weekly weigh in this morning and no loss. I've probably lost 10 in the past 3 weeks and considering some of that is water it makes me kinda disappointed. I do have these splurges with nuts and I know I eat waaaay too many. I have a splurge at least once a week. Im going to try and cut the nuts out and maybe start watching my caloires. I've been working out about 5-6 times a week, which isn't anything new for me. Ive been thinking of having a cheat day again which is always puts me back to where I started from, so Im struggling with that. Weighing myself this morning didn't help with no progress. Well thats my update...hope you all are doing great and stay strong cuz it doesn't taste as good as thin feels!

I am in the same boat. I lost 15 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing in the past 8 days.
I feel better in my clothes but I would do on any diet if I was so disciplined. It seems to me that the initial weight loss with Adkins is what most people are interested in. However, it gets frustrating when that ends after two weeks. I have exercised most days and have probably consumed 300 grams less of carbs per day than i used to. It is a little frustrating to have hit a plateau already. I am keeping focused in hope it will start coming off again.

Mal W. so how much weight do you have to loose? I can say that I've been naughty by consuming entirely way too many nuts a couple days a week. But otherwise I am very good and think I should get better results than what I have. I'll try to stop my nut binges once a week and see what happens. I weighed just off one so maybe Im retaining some water from it. I duno..this woe sucks today!

I started at 260 which was my heaviest weight ever and I am down to 245. Realistically 200lbs would be a gret result although getting to 180 would be ideal. I just thought that going from a carb filled WOE to essentially an almost carb free one would still bring about some change in the pst week. It appears a lot of people on here who have been on a long time lose initial weight then tend to stall. That to me is very frustrating especially as this WOE calls for radical chnges in eating compared to what I am used too. I am not frustrated but I guess I like the gratification of seeing the pounds come off.

It sounds like you both lost a lot of weight in the first two weeks. That's good. But this way of eating isn't a quick fix--it's supposed to be a new lifestyle. It's great if you can lose some weight quickly, but "cheat days" and expecting to lose ten pounds a week are just going to set you up for disappointment. You didn't gain the weight in two weeks and shouldn't expect to lose it in that time.

Terrascant-obviously Im not considering this to be a "quick fix" as my first goal was to stay with this woe for a month for which I have almost accomplished. Secondly considering most of your initial weight lost on this plan is water why is it so unfathomable for one to think they might loose at least 1 pound in a week also considering that person works out 5-6 times a week AND doesn't cheat except once a week over induldges in nuts. I doubt we have unreasonalbe expectations and you should be a little more considerate of adding your twocents especaily when they obviously DONT APPLY! Good Day To You!

i think that terrasanct was just trying to be supportive of you. Shes not trying to put you down, but encourage. Nobody here has EVER to my knowledge posted with the intention of belittling another, especially someone that has been here a while. YOu arent the first to post this sort of frustration about your woe, and that is the sort of answer that most of us get back, because its true. THis is a way of life, and its not a race. Please remember that we are here to help you.

I know it is frustrating. I've been on this woe for over 3 weeks. lost all of 8lbs the first week & half and nothing since. But I am in for the long haul. (been hauling it for years)
And I am very jealous of those of you who are posting continual high number losses - can't help it. But I feel better eating this way - the pounds will come off when they are ready.
I'm not going to give this thing a month. It's already got me off my butt and doing more than I ever thought I could with the energy I didn't have.
I like the nuts too, but looking at the counts - need to stick with almonds and walnuts when I am ready to get some. I think peanuts are one of the higher nuts.

Shetuna and Mal
Also remember that when you work out, you are building muscle and that can cause the scale to stall but not the inches. Measure yourself and I bet you've made some progress that you didn't even realize. The thing is, if you feel good, are energetic and enjoying doing something wonderful for yourself and your family (getting healthy!), then this WOE and WOL IS working!!

Good luck, we are here for you always.

Sheesh, don't take it personally. I've been on this WOE since 12/9 and have only lost 5 pounds. I've been following the plan with no cheats or extras. I've also been counting calories. A month isn't long term, though. That's still "quick fix" in my book. It took me years to gain the weight, and while it would be cool if I lost it in two months, I'm not expecting that.

But I feel better, and am planning to eat this way for life.

I feel just like Terrasanct. I have lost about 4 lbs. in a month? I know I'm following it right and I'm exercising.... be glad you lost that much, that would give me tons more insentive.

Terrasanct, have you lost inches? I can't tell really, because I just measured this week and haven't followed up yet....but do you think for any reason that this just doesn't work for certain people? Just curious.
Thanks

Hello guys/gals,

I am a nut-a-holic! LOL I love nuts.. unfrotuntaly for me I too over indulge. It's worse than potato chips "can't eat just one"! LOL So it tends to keep my weigh loss at bay when I over indulge. So now I try not to eat them except for once ever few weeks.. and only buy them 1 serving packages of smoked almonds.

As for water weight.. well I don't care.. it still takes up space..so I'll take what ever weight it is that's comming off. LOL IMOH I think that what ever weight that comes off before reaching ketosis.. is probably water..but then after about 3 days.. I bet it is the "real deal" FAT! (starts to chant.. go fAAaT, Go Faaat) and I really do mean.. GO! LOL

Just one question for you shetuna, what kind of work outs are you doing? I worked out (weights 3x a week and yoga 3x a week) and lost only a couple of numbers on the scales... but lost over 4" in my waist! WOOWHOOO! (now i am lazy do to this nasty cold weather) Thats the most important.. cause ppl don't see your scales.. they see the inches that are comming off. I was also told by a trainer.. that for women espcialy that when weight training.. that you gain muscles weight at about the same rate your loosing the pounds.

I know a splurg day sounds good..but at this early in the game it will probably be counter productive. It will kick them cravings back into high gear! Personaly speeking.. I would wait until your on a strong foundation .. meaning that you know you could stop after a splurge and go back to LC eating.

Just be patient.. it will come off. Some ppl it happens quicker for than others!

I see your from Michigan.. me too... where bouts are you in michigan if you don't mind me asking?

Chrystal~~: my answer is yes.. i think LC will work for every one..how ever I don't think every one is cut out to do this WOE. Hope that made sence.

Hey Shetuna ,

Everyone here has given you good advice.

I know it's not pleasant when the scale doesn't show how hard we have worked, but there are a few things you need to consider...

1) First of all, "water weight" counts! I can't believe how many people dismiss the first 4-5 pounds "just because it's water weight." Hey, that is 4-5 pounds your body is no longer having to support. Those pounds are just as hard on your joints (and your wardrobe ) as the real deal (fat), so don't be so quick to write them off...

2) The INFAMOUS, POST-INDUCTION STALL!
Horrors!
After the initial *shock* of induction, our bodies need a period to "regroup" and adjust to this way of eating. I know it doesn't SEEM like it, but THIS IS A GOOD THING.
If you continued to lose at the pace you did during induction, you would have loose skin hanging off of you like an elephant! This *pause* in your weight loss is nothing to be alarmed about. It's completely normal and healthy.

3) If you have lost 10 pounds in the past 3 weeks, you are indeed doing well.
Most people are not so lucky. I think Terra was just trying to point that out -- not hit you while you're down. We ALL sympathize with scale-hating! I know people who have LITERALLY thrown their scales out the window! LOL!

4) Don't discount the muscle theory either.
I don't know your diet history -- or how much you need to lose -- but MOST people do NOT eat enough protein before they begin eating this way. For MOST of us -- coming off of a low-fat/low-cal lifestyle -- this is the first time in our lives that we are eating adequate protein. So, our bodies prioritize and start rebuilding lost muscle first. This is ALSO A GOOD THING. Muscle weighs WAY, WAY more than fat (think oranges vs. marshmallows), but it has the wonderful added benefit of speeding up our metabolisms. This means greater fat lost later. Add to that fact, you are exercising regularly -- you have surely put on some muscle weight in the past 3 weeks. If you are not seeing a gain on the scale (common for many in the early weeks of this woe), then you have ACTUALLY LOST MORE THAN 10 POUNDS!

I hope that you will give this woe a little more time.
Consider how you are feeling. For me, that's all that mattered. If I never lose another pound, I will continue eating this way just because I FEEL BETTER.
Please read my thread in the newbies forum titled, When You Feel Like Quitting
We ALL get discouraged from time to time; even I go back and read that periodically to remind myself why I am doing this.

Summer! You beat me to it! I was going to post the link to "the scale is a cheat and a liar."

In fact, just this morning my lying, cheating scale told me that I'd either lost 2 pounds or gained 16

Honestly, I'm about to throw it out the window!!!!

BUT

My tape measure told me that I'd lost another 3/8 inch. I'll take it!

(Moral: Get out your tape measure folks!!!)

Blessings!

Just to add my two cents

I started low carb December 3, 03. After about three weeks I had lost 19 pounds. The next week I lost about 8 pounds. It was during my TOM. The following week I gained 8 back! What? I did not cheat! Hold on! I starting biking the week before, How could I be gaining? For the next two weeks, I worked on relosing the eight pounds. After my following TOM (This week), I am down a total of 30 pounds.

I guess the reason I am explaining all this is to agree with everyone else. We all have stalls and sometimes even gain weight for no reason, but we all eventually see it come off again. We just need to be patient. Difficult at times, I know....and ok to vent sometimes. I think I just have to face the fact that not every week am I going to see a decrease on the scale, but if I realize that ahead of time I can save myself from feelings of depression.

And I just keep reminding myself....LOOK AT THE 30 POUNDS YOU HAVE LOST, WOMAN!!!

I wish you all the luck.

I also want to say thank you to all the people who give advice, sometimes feeling sympathy, sometimes consoling, sometimes giving me a hard look at what I need to. You all have helped me so much, and I thank you for caring enough to take time to write a post!!!

Peace, Joanna
