I think you may have misread my last reply in my original post about discusing the fact that my doctor would not approve my going on the Atkins plan.

I am not currently on Atkins and would not go on it without consultation and medical approval.

I have discussed it in the past with my doctor and wanted to know more imformation that could make her understand I have no intention on doing something that was no healthy for me.

I am educated and have been a diabetic for 10 years and I know my condition. I am considered in the early stages of Kidney disease but according to my doctor that diaognosis is a precaution to me that if I did not take care of my blood sugars I could have kidney damage down the road in a few years. My kidneys at present are at 100 percent. I am no damage to them but I am aware that I need to take precautions.

I take no offense to the closing of the orginal thread and in no way did I state I was going against my doctor's wishes.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.
I started cutting back my carbs to about 60-80 per day and was not following a specific LC plan....

I know I had some blood work and lab work to see how I am doing so when I see her this February I will ask her about it.

My doctor's Physician's assistant is aware that I was cutting my carbs to 60-80 per day in addition to cutting to 40 grams of fat per day and neither she nor my doctor are against that.

Please understand I was not indicating that I was going to do Atkins regardless. I apologize for the misunderstanding if you did .

Thank you,
May I please still be a part of this community?

BlueCorn,

Of course you may be a part of this community!

I'm so glad you are seeking your doctor's advice before attempting any diet.

Given your history, you might want to consider an LC plan that doesn't induce ketosis -- less strain on the kidneys. The Zone would be one and I believe Schwarzbien another. You might want to post questions in the diabetics forum and in the Zone forum here on LCE. You would be able to get more information there.

At any rate, you are under your doctor's care and have embarked on a lower carb plan with their permission.

I wish you well

Blessings!

Sandra, you absolutely can be a part of this community!!!! If you can inform your doctor of how you plan to go ahead with this and you get approval, go for it.

There is also a "Diabetic Support and Encouragement" Forum here too. You might want to check that out.

I feel better now, I was thinking everyone thought I was a renegad Disbetic.

Honestly, I enjoyed reading everyone's story and know that I cannot follow any diet without doctor's approval.

I have an appointment to see a nutritionst this February and together we will work out a plan for me.

I am taking it slow and steady. I started my meal plan on Jan. 1st and in one month have lost 7 pounds.

I am not in the running for quick weight loss just a healthy one , I promise.

Great!
I 'll keep you posted on my next doctor's appointment and how my apointment with the nutritionist goes.

For now I am a 1800 calorie diet, 40 grams fat, 80 carbs per day. That may change but not without doctor's approval.

Thank you...
