Here's a site that lists a comparison of the several low carbs plans, including Atkins and Protein Power. Just click on the name of the low carb plan and it will give you a brief over view.

Welcome to the forums

Atkins and Protein Power are more similar than they are different (compared to other low carb programs).

In Atkins, you reduce your carbs down to 20 g for 14 days (induction) in order to get into ketosis. You then start adding 5 g of carbs a week (ongoing weight loss) until you hit your carb limit (the maximum ammount of carbs you can eat and still loose weight). After you are about 10-20 pounds away from your target weight, you start adding more carbs (pre maintanance). After you are at your target weight, you can add more things back, as long as they don't cause you to gain back your weight.

With PP (I believe) you first find out the minimum ammount of protein you need a day (calculated through a combination of your lean body mass and activity level). You also restrict your carb intake to 30 g. At some point, you raise your carb level to 55 g. After you are done loosing weight, you increase it further. (I am on Atkins, so I don't know all of the details).

Both will work, but Atkins is more popular around here.

Whichever plan you choose, you really need to read their book as they have many detailed recomendations and specific advice on vitamins, minerals and other things.

Good Luck, and don't be afraid to post here if you have any questions or need support.

The Protein Power book is amazing. Both actually can work well together.

I love Protein Power. Paladin did a great job comparing the two, and I definitely agree that they are more similar than different.

Since you have the protein power book, perhaps you could start with that. Then read Atkins as soon as you find it and see if you want to modify with some of the Atkins ideas.
