I have read a lot of success stories from people who are looking to lose a lot of weight. I am not considered overweight but would like to lose a few pounds to be healthier and look better. I am kind of discouraged because I can't lose the weight as fast as many other people. This makes it difficult to stick with my goals. Anyone have any advice for someone just looking to lose a few pounds?

Welcome jgill,

To my knowledge, everyone who only has a few pounds to lose experiences a very slow fat loss.

The beauty of low carb eating for me is how I feel. No more mid-day energy crashes. I feel like doing more each week that passes. I don't feel bloated and puffed after a satisfying meal. I have control over what I put in my mouth. I no longer feel like an out of control (food) drug addict.

This is my second time on a Low Carb regimim. The first time my attidude wasn't right. I was doing it because I had to lose weight, feeling sorry for myself because I mentally felt deprived of ice cream, Krispy Creme donuts, ect. I went on a 7 month cheat gaining all my weight back. Physically, mentally, spiritually I was getting sicker. I was diagnosed w/Diabetes in Nov. That day I went back on Adkins. I have totally changed my attitude on why I am doing this as a way of life. This site is my support group. I never want to go back to death waiting to happen. I no longer feel deprived, but feel sympathy for folks who don't understand what they are doing to themselves eating the other way. Thin people get heart disease, diabetes, etc.

I hope I didn't overwhelm you. I just feel very passionately about this. Why do most of us have to get a wake up call before we get it?

I'm sure others will have some encouragement for you. I wish you well on your journey, because with knowledge comes...a journey...Lol

Honestly, I can't tell you that I have only a few pounds to lose. Although I am healthy and technically could continue my life fully at the weight I am now, I know what you mean about wanting to lose weight.

Seriously though, even if you are only looking for a few lost pounds, you must understand that low carb is meant to be a way of life, not just a crash diet. The people here, no matter how little or how much weight they are looking to lose are dedicated to a healthier lifestyle and that's why they have choose Atkins or some other LC lifestyle. If you are like us in the fact that you are looking to make this a lifestyle, focus less on those few pounds and more on the energy and health you are gaining from this lifestyle... the weight will come with it over time. I can't help you change your mental status on the slow weight loss, but I can tell you that you should really focus on your health, not so much the few extra pounds.

First I would like to welcome you to LCE!!!

Now, I have a couple of questions for you: Are you looking ONLY to lose a few pounds and then go back to the way you normally eat now? Have you read anything about Low Carbing? Would you be willing to commit to eating healthier the rest of your life?

Here's a link to our beginner's guide. I think it may help you a lot and give you a place to start. The link is actually at the top of the page, but I've given you a short cut here: Beginner's Guide

yes: welcome and good luck! I have only a few pounds to lose too, so we can feel each other's frustration, perhaps! But then again, since its a WOE and not a fad, perhaps the slowness isnt so bad... breeds patience.

jgill - not exactly in the same boat as you, but weight loss will be slow for me because I am so short. From what I've read from the posts on this site, just stick to it and make it a "way of life" attitude and you WILL be successful!
