I was at work this afternoon eating a hard boiled egg. (I brought a couple to work to eat for lunch so I could have all my veggies at dinner time) I was sitting at my desk eating my egg and the woman I work with said to me "You aren't doing Atkins are you? Don't you know that's bad for you?" Now this cracked me up because she said this to me while...

1) Eating her lunch that consisted of a Burger king whooper, a large coke AND a "poutine" (Now for that don't live in Quebec you probably have no idea what a "poutine" is so I'll explain. It's something that we have at ALL our fast food places, McDonalds, Burger king, KFC ect. It's a French Canadian concoction that consists of... French Fries with cheese smothered in gravy. I must admit it is AWSOME but not exactly healthy)

and 2) She said this just as she was grabbing her pack of cigarettes to go have a smoke.

I just smiled and told her I was cutting out breads, pasta, rice and other man made high carb items as she left for her smoke.

Funny how people think!

Funny story! It amazes me how people think. What amazes me more is that we in the U.S. haven't embraced the poutine. Even cheese fries aren't all that popular here.

Needachange-

That's great!

My response to people is - which is the healthier fast food lunch - a whopper, fries and a soda - or a whopper (no bun or ketchup), side salad instead of the fries, and a large water. That'll keep them quiet for awhile because they know what the answer SHOULD be - but then they'd be acknowledging the superiority of LCing!!!

Not that I do alot of fast food either, my DH makes me a spinach (or cobb) salad with chichen, or other leftover protein for lunch. But it is a good comeback to those who think WE are the unhealthy ones!!!

You have alot of self control, I would have been rolling on the floor laughing
Is'nt it funny but at the same time sad, how some people fail to look at themselves before they critisize, I know I spelled that wrong but....

Oh my goodness is that funny! I get comments like that all the time. You showed considerable restraint.

Though my home (and heart) is in Massachusetts, I go to school in Montreal...and I've NEVER HAD POUTINE! Perhaps bc the concoction they whip up at the student center smells so gross...I've never partaken in it durning the three years I've been here!

Such self restraint you have!! I would have said, "Excuse me?" "Regardless of my choice of lunches, look at your lunch and look at mine.... which did you say was unhealthy???" "Whatever."

Some people's ignorance does border on hysterical. And you never know... she may someday be a fan of low carb, in the meantime - Type 2 diabetes may be just around her corner...

Needa, that was pretty funny!!!! thanks for sharing that.

I had a debate with my sister awhile back about LCing. She was eating dinner at my house, hadn't seen me for quite sometime and my weight loss was quite evident. I served broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, salad and chicken roasted in olive oil and herbs. We were having a nice conversation about how I ate and the exercise I do and all that. Suddenly she looked up over her glasses at me, with her head averted and said, "Ya know Barb, Atkins is very dangerous." THAT flipped my switch. I stood up, picked my plate up, held it in front of her and said, "Tell me, what is dangerous about this meal." She said, "I don't know the biochemicals of it all. Too much protein." The chicken was just keels (tenderloins) and I had ONE on my plate. I said, "You mean to tell me you think this way of eating is dangerous? I eat like this all the time." I told her I gave up doritos, pringles, cake, candy and all that kind of garbage. She had NO defense. All she knew was what she'd "heard." I think I will stay off the doritos, etc., in exchange for my better blood pressure, increased energy, exercise, and slimmer body. Maybe she's right, maybe doritos and sugar ARE healthier, I just would rather not take the chance of eating healthier by her standards.

Barb, just repeat after me......Groos Fra Bah! Just smell the lavender! LOL....I think there is more protein in that whopper patty than there is in that chicken you had on your plate!
