It's been 3 weeks and I have lost 1 inch from my waist and that is all. No other loses anywhere. I measure waist, upper thigh, middle thigh, hips. I don't know what's wrong. I posted my eating and feel I need to go to owl, but am afraid my body is immune to this woe now. The last 2 times I did Atkins, it was so fast and easy. Now, there's absolutely nothing. Any suggestions? I keep reading the boards and it keeps me going, but I need to find out what is wrong.

Need some more info in order to respond:

What are you eating in a typical day? Leave nothing out. Tell everything, even down to the sweetner you are using.
How much weight do you want to lose?

Janet, please take a deep breath. I'm going to lecture you a bit, but I mean it with all respect and compassion.

Now, would you rather have lost an inch than gained? Would you rather have lost an inch than nothing? I'm thinking probably yes. Those three weeks would have gone by just the same if you weren't eating right.

If you haven't already, you need to get out of the mindset that you can "do" Atkins temporarily. Going on and off is likely to produce this very result - what was once fast and easy becomes slow in comparison.

How much do you have to lose? How tall are you? How did you decide what your goal weight is? What are you eating? I know you may have posted these before, but in order to help we need to see them here.

There is no race. You do need to go to OWL if you have done a good, clean induction with natural foods, no specialty low-carb products. And you need to be patient with yourself and with your body.

1 inch really is not bad for 3 weeks. Remember that with this woe weight seems to leave the stomache first. I have to ask the dreadful question: Are you exercising? If not, you may want to start walking to see some improvement in other areas.

Regardless, don't give up.

Good luck all!!

Don't lose hope. My first 3 weeks I really didn't show much either. I stuck to it and have lost lots of inches and pounds now.

Repeat dieters seem to have this problem consistenly. Give it time. Move onto OWL. Eat pure.

Hang in there!!!!

I am in a similar quandary. I gained 5 pounds over the holidays, went back into induction quite strictly: no snacking after dinner, lots of water, daily exercise. My hormones are in a twist from onset of menopause and not only am I not losing but I am gaining!

It's driving me nuts, but making me persevere even more. I'm wondering if all the water is just hanging on as water weight.

Typical menu:
eggs bacon breakfast or flaxmeal cereal
Chicken for dinner or lunch w/cauliflower mash
olives (6) and 3 oz hard cheese - snack or 1/4 cup or less of macadamia nuts
Salad with dinner

I would like to lose 40 pounds, have lost 12 over the past year.

Of wise low carbers out there, what can I do???

Thanks

First of all, to Flipleis--Please start a new thread of your own, and repeat your question, so you can get individual attention. Different people = different answers.

Now back to Janet.

There, there. Too soon to panic. In fact, as others have pointed out, you either want to make a commitment to LC for life, or not. Whether it's three weeks, or three years, there will be times when "nothing" is happening.

The point is, does this style of eating suit you? Are you feeling energetic, and satisfied with the kinds of food you are eating? Do you think this style of eating helps you control cravings and manage portions? Are you getting plenty of vegetables and drinking lots of water? Are you eating fresh foods and not manufactured food substitutes (including so-called low-carb products)?

It's a lifestyle, not a "fix." Take it from the veterans, patience is the first thing you learn.

Best wishes!

flipleis:

Um...you can eat more food, for one thing.

Eat at least 3 cups of vegetables a day, and mix it up with lots of different kinds.
Eat a hefty portion of protein for lunch and then a slightly smaller one for dinner.

But eat more vegetables. Vegetables is where you get your carbs.

My two cents...

Seriously... April and everyone has given you GREAT advice on how to eat, but please remember that the eating and water isn't the only part of this lifestyle. Yes I said lifestyle and NOT diet. You said it yourself.. you went on, then off, then on, then off, and now are trying to get back on. It's like a lightbulb if you keep flashing it on and off... it gets pissed and blows up in your face! Your body is probably just as upset. You really need to look at making this a lifestyle rather than an on again off again diet. I'm not trying to put you down.. I promise becuase I have watched a friend go through the same thing... and I've seen how frustrating it has been for her. Relax.. eat clean... drink your water.. and really think about making it a lifestyle not a "diet". Think about the energy and health you gain from this WOE... would you want to live any other way? Good luck and I hope you do find success in this WOL!

Oh... I forgot to add something... remember that the less weight you have to lose... the more time in relation it will take. Relax sweetie... it didn't get there in one day, so it won't disappear that way either!
