Right in the middle of my complex thoughts, I apparently pushed the post now button! I am a total newby at this - I have never posted on an internet forum before. Please forgive my ineptitude, and allow me to continue. (I know this is awfully long, but it seems I have a lot to get off my chest. LOL)

Here's what I was thinking. Before lc I was a serious skim milk junkie. I went through a gallon in two days. I have often heard of "allergy/addiction" in which a person craves the food that makes them feel bad. I think that was the case with me and milk. I gave up milk to go lc, but at first did not eat any other dairy products. As with many of us, it took me awhile to realize that it's ok to eat high fat foods, so I only added cream, sour cream, cream cheese, and other cheese slowly and occasionally at first. As I continued to lose ok even when eating these foods, and because I found them very delicious, and probably because of allergy/addiction, I ate more and more of them.

My hypothesis became that the dairy was the cause of carb creep and calorie creep, as well as the unpleasant stiffness. I wanted to see what would happen without it. That's why I chose the username "Paleofornow," because without the dairy I am doing the basic neanderthin type diet. (but definitely without fruit, just berries.) The romance of the paleo idea helped me to give up my yummy food (I am hunter-gatherer woman, hear me roar!!!)

Well, my results were stunning. After the first week I was down to 234 (a 4-pound loss) Hurray! Also, by the time the first week was gone, I could tell the stiffness situation had improved greatly. I got back that high-energy feeling-great feeling. This was mid to late November. I kept losing and feeling great. Then, around Christmas I decided to test the thing. Four days in a row (12/24,25,26, and 27) I ate dairy. Things like bleu cheese dressing and sour cream dip. The 27th it was a lot of dairy - a pint of plain yogurt for breakfast and a restaurant salad with lots of cheese for dinner. (I wouldn't normally eat that much yogurt, but I guess it was a holiday treat.) I felt vaguely stiff again. I stopped the dairy, and in less that 48 hours the stiffness was gone. Well, I'm sold. For now, dairy will be no more than a once-in-a-blue moon treat.

I got down to 225 this month. This is a very special number for me, because it represents a halfway point. I take 300 as my highest weight, and I have set 150 as my goal. So 225 represents 75 pounds lost, and halfway to goal.

Thank you a million times, everyone of you. Your support and knowledge and experience are very special to me, and a big part of my success.

Alice

Welcome. And good for you, Alice!

One of the important aspects of this way of eating is the educational aspect, watching different foods in different amounts to see what they do to or for you.

You're well ahead of the game if you've identified a problem food.

You might want to look into a "no dairy" challenge that's currently going on. It's here Off Your Moo

We also have a forum devoted to paleo type diets, it's called the Caveman Forum. If you go to the forum page, you'll see it listed.

I wish you continued success!

Maggie, thanks for the tips. I did just what you said. I've been lurking around this place for a long time, but never checked out the challenge clubs before. How wonderful to find one custom-made for me.

Barb, I haven't seen your message yet, will be heading over there soon
