Just a friendly reminder to everyone to drink their water!

Water is a vital component to our body and is necessary for a million different things. Proper circulation, electrolyte balance, liver and kidney function, normal bowel movements, etc. Not to mention nice skin!

Many or our members have found themselves stalling in their weight loss because they weren't drinking enough water. They THOUGHT they were, but they weren't. As soon as they upped their water intake to around a gallon a day, WOOSH, they started losing again.

So drink up! Shoot for a gallon a day and slosh your way to good health.

Marcie

Great reminder, Marcie!

It's especially important if, like me, you're in hot and humid weather conditions. It's amazing how much high temperatures can zap your internal water supply!

We cannot stress this enough to our newbies!!!

Those of us who have been doing this a while will tell you, IT REALLY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

I try to drink about a gallon of water per day -- EVERY day. That's 128 oz. The key is to sip it throughout the day; don't gulp it all at once!

This helps SO much with the weight loss and it is such a healthy thing to do.
So drink up!

Thanks for the advice. One question though...is it possible to drink too much water? I am averaging between 160-180 ounces a day. I love my water!

Hi ppl,

Could someone post the specific things to add to water to make it more pleasant to those that hate tasteless things.

Thanks,

Information gladly given, but safety requires no unnecessary conversation.

Yes, it IS possible to drink too much water, but it's difficult to do.
Hypernatraemia (sp?) occurs only under very specific circumstances.
That said, I personally do not go above 150 oz/day unless I am exercising vigorously several times a week.
My body just doesn't need that much water.
If you are not exercising, I would limit your water a bit more. Even if you are exercising, I definitely would not go above 2 gallons/day.
Just use good judgement.

Try adding a small amount of lemon or lime juice. There are also sugar-free flavorings you can buy. Even adding a little iced tea (for a VERY watered-down tea effect) can make it seem less dull...

Hi again,

Would unsweetened Kool-Aid qualify as a "sugar-free flavoring". I've gotten a bit tired of Diet Pepsi.

Hey Red,

Well, technically, *yes* but I would be wary of using anything with Nutrasweet in it too often. For some reason, it seems to stall a lot of us when we use it too frequently.
That doesn't mean that I *never* have a Diet Coke -- I do -- but I really try to limit how much aspartame I take in.
Every time I start using it casually, I stall out and my cravings get worse.
Anyway, just FYI

Some may contend that this does not qualify as drinking water, but I do drink a lot of iced tea. A bit more flavor than straight water, and since I like it fairly diluted, it doesn't seem to be a problem with me.

Also, a squeeze of lemon or lime (just a touch) adds flavor.

Da Vinci and Torani both have an extensive line of sugar free (made with splenda) flavored syrups. A splash of that in the water gives a nice taste. I like this cold. Just don't overdo it. My personal favorites are raspberry and strawberry.

For sodas, I've gone almost exclusively with Diet Rite brand whenever I can, or Hansens diet flavors. Both are made with splenda vs. aspertame, and I believe both (I know Diet Rite is) are caffeine free.

Is the 128oz of water a day the same for a man as well as for women?? I don't mind the H2O but I'll have to push to drink that much !!

Scrat,
I'm confused by your question.

I'm a woman and I drink 128 oz/day. Why would a man drink LESS? They usually require more of everything...
I don't see any need to drink more than that unless you are exercising vigorously or working in extreme heat every day. And in that case, you need to make sure you get enough salt, too.
Remember, 128 oz. is the *goal* for most people. It took me a LONG time to get up to this much a day. Just take it slowly; one day at a time.

I was wondering why it is so important to drink 1/2 your body weight in water? I have never heard of this until I fell upon this website. I understand that drink 8 glasses of water a day can not be sufficent for everyone, but 1/2 of you body weight...(that's a lot of water for some of us!!!) I already drink about a gallon a day anyway so i know i am doing good.. I was just curious...
