This is my third attempt at Atkins (yes... bad me!). I started 2 & 1/2 wks ago and after losing 5kgs (11 pounds) in the first 10 days, the scales haven't moved in a week. I've stayed away from the dreaded Equal, am doing better at water (am doing about 60oz a day) and I've been working out at the gym 4 times a week and walking for 40mins 6 days a week. I want to lose another 11 pounds by March 15, a third 11 pounds by Easter (mid-April) and the last 11 pounds by mid-June. Am I being too impatient? Last time I lost 25 pounds in 8wks. And yes I know I've lost my 'Golden Shot' so this is probably the low carb God punishing me....
As usual, I'm always keen to hear from someone from Down Under (NZ and Australia)

Well, I am not from down under. Lots of people don't lose in the 3rd week. Remember it is not a stall unless you don't lose weight for 4 weeks.

One of the things I went back and started doing is measuring my body and tracking that in addition to weight. If you are getting enough exercise you maybe turning fat into muscle and the inches will come off not the lbs.

It could be worse you could be me and I gained 4.5lbs last week even though I didn't cheat at all. I had lost 7 lbs in the first 2 week. The reason for the weight gain is I started weight training.

I am also not from NZ or Aust., but as you can tell from my name...I do love NZ. I have also been stalled in introduction. I try not to think about it as a stall. I think of it as my body adjusting to the change that it is going through.
I have found that I first lose inches then I lose pounds. I have also talked to my mother and that is what happens to her also. I am not sure if this is what your body is doing also. Like travellost said, take measurements along with weight. I think that you will do fine, and just try to keep a positive outlook on things. It seems like you are committed to it. I wish you all the luck.

I guess I need to pull my head in and not be so impatient! I've used the camera with timer and taken (very awful) photos of myself pre-start so I can lose weight and stay motivated by the awful photos. Its just demoralising to get on the scales each morning and see them stay static. I've lost 2 inches off my body. I'm determined to get to my goal and as my reward I'll be getting a tummy tuck.
I've started taking 500mg of L-Carnitine a day; has anyone else tried this with or without success?
Pause rather than stall has more positive vibes :-)
Weight training?! My personal trainer suggested weight training but I want to lose numbers off the scales, and muscle of course weighs more than fat.
Thanks heaps for the feedback so far!

Muscle weighs more than fat, but it also takes up less space in your body. The other benefit to muscles, is that, on Atkins, they use fat almost exclusivly as an energy source. Because of this, the more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn.

I wouldn't wait on the weight training. It will rev up your metabolism. I stalled big time during my 3rd week and only lost 6 lbs (and was my first time at any change of eating plan). I have since lost 30 lbs just with perseverence. Hang in there, be patient, it will happen. You've had a wonderful initial loss. You're doing great!!!!!!

I've been bad and haven't been back to the gym since Tuesday, but I have walked 2 miles / 30 mins every day. I'm thinking about upgrading my scales to one of the types that measures fat percentage so at least when the scale isnt moving because of muscle, there should be an adjustment in the fat percentage to keep me motivated!

I'm definately going to go with everyone on two big things...
1)Working out causes muscle to build... lowering your body fat even though you can't see it in a weight loss.
~and~
2)There is always a good possiblity you are losing inches and not pounds from that muscle gain... and fat loss.... get out the measuring tape, it will put your mind a little more to rest.

Megan, you couldn't be more right. I have been weight training for 2 months now and I have been "stalled" that long too. I am chalking it up to a gain in lean muscle. I can live with that.

I'll get the tape measure out this weekend... I've been thinking about ketotis over the past two days. My strips are expired from my last effort but I havent bothered getting any new strips. However I read something in the forums that pasty feeling mouth with constant thirst indicates ketotis so I think maybe I'm only just hitting ketotis properly. Will try and buy some new strips in the new few days

Hey there Canterbury girl. Maybe you can try experimenting with your water. I find that when I drink more, I lose more. Try the 1/2 your body weight in ounces. About 87 ounces a day and see if that works. Good luck!

Hey Ozzie,

I've been trying to really up my water intake over the past few days. I'm drinking between 2L and 2.5L of water a day (approx 67 - 84 ounces). It helps when I set myself a challenge eg finish this water bottle by morning break, this bottle by lunch etc

I did manage to lose another 2 & 1/2 pounds over the past few days - I added some veges, roasted, instead of salad, and I think that with the added water has helped :-)

Help.. I got all excited because I had lost a kg on offical 'Weigh Day' but two days later its back. I can only think that it was actually water loss (because I had diarrhoea on the weekend).
In short that means Ive been paused for 2wks :-(
